A while back, like YEARS ago, you were telling me about a company that makes roll bar mount switch panels and that they were completely custom in what you can have them make. Who was that company?

I really REALLY should re-do the wiring on my car. It was a clean custom job when I first bought this chassis, but as I've spliced things in over the years it's terrible. With the interior and cage out, a lot of wiring was simply just cut out, for now, as it looks like ass.

If I'm going to re-do it, I want to re-do it with something clean...but I don't want to have to do something custom (i.e. making my own real & fuse panel, along with making my own weather packs).

I know the high end guys really love the Spaghetti Menders stuff, and after looking at what they have to offer vs Painless Wiring, I can see why. It's extremely clean and modular. However, they also charge about double what Painless is.

I got a quote from a guy last night to do everything on the car, bumper to bumper, professionally and about fell out of my chair when he told his "buddy price". It's more than half of what my new cage is going to cost me, PLUS I have to pay for the parts (switch, fuse, and relay panel). I will say he comes with great references and uses nice stuff.

The bottom line is I have to do something, and I'm going to get a switch, fuel, relay panel to start. So does anyone have a hook up with Spaghetti Menders? ;)

Same thing here ben, really need to gut the wiring out of the sloobra. Problem is I really want to keep about everything in the car operational until I truely decide to do what you are with your coupe and put a true 25.5 in it. A couple of guys here locally just tear apart their stock wiring harness, pull out the wiring they dont need, then put it all back in place. If they have to add items they simply use the stock fuse box. Which if you think about it, thats not a bad idea because its free ;)

What's wrong with starting off a key?

Starting off of the key has a few things wrong with it IMO...

You are stuck with a factory steering column, so if you want to upgrade to an aftermarket streering column you have to start your car somewhere else.

You're also stuck with using the factory key switch and taping into the factory molex/harness. Just another chain the link that can be simplified.

Removing the steering to work under the dash (think turbo cars that have intercooler plumbing under the dash) is a PITA.

I'm trying to simplify the maintenance of my car as much as possible. DZUS'd in seats and dashboard for easy removal.

I'm past the point of trying to keep a race car looking and acting like a street car. I want it to be easier to work on.

As for wiring systems, I'm narrowed down to either Spaghetti Menders or Speedwire. Both are top notch.

A buddy of mine got a real nice setup for his car made by Spahetti Menders. It's pretty much idiot and bullet proof. The switches are top-notch quality and all connections are have screws in the end to secure them just like computer "serial" cables. Only downside is the price... $$$$

Seats??

Yes seats. What holds you in your seat? The seat belts, not the seat. If my fiberglass hood can stay on at 165+mph, my seat should be able to stay in with DZUS fasteners and be securely fastened.

I could be wrong, but in the event of an accident, I'll be relying on my harness to keep me secured in my seat. Look at a Pro 5.0 car at the carbon fiber "short" style seat they use. They're DZUS'd in as well.

hmm...guess it makes since. If you have your seat properly tied in with the cage, even if all the dzus fastners let loose, it should stay put.

When I first read it, I had the picture of a car w/o roll cage. The G forces of a 180+ lb man pressing against the back of the seat would flop back regardless of a harness. But I guess it makes since.

How about using quick release pins (like used on roll bar swingouts)? Just as easy to remove, and should handle more sheer load...

But I never paid attn to how Pro50 cars mount their seats, so I'm sure you got it figured out :thumb:

Just make sure it is strong. You do not want the seat to break loose in an accident.
I use 4 7/16th bolts to hold my seat in. These are big 5/8 head grade 8 bolts mounted to chrome moly tabs that are welded and part of my cage.
If I remember correctly, Steve Grebeck had the seat get knocked loose and heard there were some problems and a failure where the belts were mounted in his car. My seat belts are also mounted with the same size bolts that hold the seat in my car. Tabs welded to the cage for the crotch and 2 lower belts.
Just make sure you are safe Ben.

Sorry for the delayed response Ben. I've been busy searching for that one Chinese girl that doesn't have straight pubic hair, the one that's naturally bald or the one that it a natural redhead (with matching carpet).

Back to the topic.....I got my switch panel and harness from Trick Cable and Switch. Actually I got it for free, I had some parts that the owner wanted and he just happened to have some parts that I needed. Take a look at their website, there is some neat stuff to be seen.

My seat is mounted in the same fashion with 7/16 bolts.
