Guys... I have a friend that will be helping me come up with a new and updated front page for PoMoFo. I'd like to ask for ideas on what you guys would like to see on the front page. Race schedules, calendar, content linked to forums, race news feeds, member rides????? I'm looking for ideas..

Some ideas I like -

- RSS feed from some sort of auto/racing news (feel free to offer any other linked content you might think would be worth wild) This will help keep the front page from being non static
- Area that gives a brief description of the last few post made in the forums
- Local events that is tied to the vbullentin calendar (going to require moderation of the calendar, don't want every member having access to make calendar entries)

I'll be looking at some other sites for idea, but I really would like the input of the members because those are the people who we hope to benefit.

The configuration/idea is that it will be simple to update and keep current. I "think" (not the developer, just the guy trying to come up with ideas) the plan is to use some sort of xml forms that will be simple for us mods to keep updated (ie - race schedules) that will auto-populate the front page. This way we will not have to be making HTML updates and worry about formatting when we want to make some simple changes.

Give me your input!!!

I see what you are doing, trying to spoof up the place so you can sell it.

You jicktoe!

1. Race Series Scheduled would be good. But not just local ones for this area of the country, post the schedule for as many of them you can find to try and lure people to the page from hits on Google etc... COTT, ADRL, ORSCA, MAKO, NHRA, IHRA, NMRA, NMCA, FFW, Superchevy, etc...

2. Some kind of visual showing the lasted posts in the forum along with who posted it. Seems to be a common thing on most front pages.

3. Leave the site philosophy up to show others what we are about.

4. Leave the catch phrase under the logo....we all bashed our heads together to come up with those!

1. K - lets get a list of the race schedules we'd like and I'll come up with some way to display them. (Help collecting the schedules would be nice too) Probably something with a heading like "Race Series Schedules" then have the title like "NMRA" with an collaspable part that displays the schedule.

2. planned

3 & 4 - plan to keep.. may have a cleaner look, but same theory.

LOLOLOL.. Don't think we are for sale as it's just too profitable to part with.

We are definitely NOT for sale! I wouldn't know what to do with the grand amounts of money I'd get from selling so I just choose to not put myself in the position to begin with.

Todd, check out the front pages of txmma.com, sherdog.com, corral.net, and even WSM for some ideas. I like the way the txmma front page is with upcoming events, the various link ideas, etc but I don't like the exact sw they use for the forums.

Just some more ideas.

I'd also like to get more exposure for the tech articles, seeing as how the knowledge base we have on this site is super deep and Mr. Nay has done some great work. I'd like to see his stuff get more hits and let people know they're there.

Also, something where users could fill out some sort of form and "submit" for car of the month nominations would be good so when one is chosen, the information is all there and ready to just "upload" to the COTM page/form/place.

Anyways, thanks for the post!

www.txmma.com - wow, that's a bunch of content. The "view" of the site is very similar with what I'm trying to come up with. Just don't know if we'll have that much content.

www.sherdog.com is probably closer to the design I'm sort of looking for.

Call me conservative, but I like the front page exactly how it is :)

How about some content management system, not sure if that's what is used already. There is postnuke, joomla, and others.

Personally, I don't use the frontpage since it pretty much doesn't change, but if someone were to put the effort into keeping it updated, and not just an rss feed, I might hit that first. Another thing to add would be popular posts.

Thanks for the props Fred! I need to do some more, but haven't found the time lately. I have a few things started, just never quite finished any of them...

I wish I had some input, but I don't ever go to the front page. Personally, I like the calendar but didn't know we had one...:D
