i know everyones prolly sick of hearing me whine about my problems...but i need some ideas on what the heck is wrong with my car....ok here it is......my car is making a ticking noise from either the # 3 or # 4 cylinder.....its not the header gasket...changed them 2 times...i also put brand new throttle body and EGR gaskets on.....also re-ran the valves and checked for loose-ness and also checked the lifter to see if it was deflated...thats all i can think of to check...any other ideas?
also this dang heap is surging.....any tricks to cure that?
thanks

are you sure tha ticking is comin from tha top end and not tha bottom end? the surging me be tied in with tha ticking sound. im not sure what a bad er a spun bearing sounds like, but i would try ta make sure that tha noise is really comin from where you think it is..... pop tha hood, start er up, and listen both under tha hood and under tha car, and see where tha noise is tha loudest. just my 2 cents.

it could be coming from there but...its loudest from the passenger side by #3 and #4 cylinders...

what headers are on the car? It's possible to have a pinhole leak in the headers themselves.

Clint,
Did you check all of the EGR stuff? Crossover, injection tube inlet, valve, etc.?
Might be one of those...
I'm going to assume that 'tapping on metal' does not mean a 'thud' or 'thump', so what you are relaying is a small problem; what valvecovers do you have? Could it be a rocker hitting the baffle? A rocker out of adjustment? Bad EGR valve?
Burn a hole in youe injection tubing? Look closely; it happens :D

Check your Lifters? Could be a bad lifter

i am pulling the intake this weekend...to check the lifters......
BUT if it is a bad lifter ...wouldnt the plug be fouled b/c the cylinder isnt firing correctly?

not really..... tha nova ran with 3 collapsed lifters from tha time that i bought/installed it to tha time that it fucked off on me, and still ran like a bat outta hell (fer a stock motor)..... and tha plugs never failed.:)
if im not mistakin (and this is how i found out on tha nova), you dont have ta pull tha intake off ta see if you have a bad lifter.... just pull tha valve covers, turn tha engine over by hand, and watch each valve to see if it opens/closes. if it doesnt open, then you know theres somethin wrong there, weather it be a broke off push rod er a lifter. thats how i would go about doin it. just my 2 cents.:)
