I know that some people wanted to be here when I start the car for the first time. I finished up the wiring today so we are going to give it a shot and try and start the car up tomorrow. I went and got fuel for today and have a bunch of things to go over and finalize but I think the time has come to give it a shot. I'll be here all today tomorrow, and I know that Darrell is coming by to give me a hand, we will have refreshments and probably some lunch also. Give me a call if you need directions if you have never been out here before. I will probably get started about 10 in the morning.

The BG400 has a leak that I can't fix, I'm ordering a seal kit for it ASAP. The good news is that we where able to trouble shoot a few things and even with the bad fuel pump we where still able to fill the bowls in the carb up and get the car fired up for a minute or two. It sounds great, has 60-65 pounds of oil pressure and if very nasty! Big thanks to everyone who has helped me get this for but special thanks goes out to Darrell, Chris, Jason, Troy, Fred and Ben, if it wasn't for you guys I wouldn't have gotten near this far and I really appreciate everything you guys have done to help over the past few years. I have the intiial firing on video and I will do everything I can to get it posted up in the next day or two. I know that Jason also taped it and I'm hopeing that he will come through yet again and post it up because I don't have a cable for my camera yet. The first day you fire a motor is always rough and this one was no walk in the park, Darrell and I where ready to throw in the the towel but Jason and Josh showed up and egged us on, we faced water leaks, fuel leaks, and ignition problems but we got them sorted out enough to actually get the motor running.
I'm ordering a rebuld kit for the pump and we are going to actually shoot for next Friday to be able to fire it up and set the timiing and other functions.
Once again thanks to everyone, and espically my wife for understanding how much it means to me. I can't wait in the next month of two to actually make a pass in the car!

Awesome Brent, wish I would have checked on here and known you were firing it up. We didn't do much of anything yesterday, just sat around the house.

Good deal Brent! Little things will crop up, as with anything you do. Keep at it, and let us know when you get the S-cable and/or the pump kits!

Firing a motor for the first time is always such a high. I'm glad you've stuck to this! It's been a kick butt project to see you work through!

I have it on DVD does anyone know of a quick way to upload it on the net?

You'll need a program to convert that dvd into a file (.wmv, .avi, etc) that you can then upload.

Good deal Brent. I wish I could have made it out there to help and watch. As Ben said, the first time you fire a new motor is always exciting. I can't wait to see you making some passes down the track.

Thats what I'm talking about. 08 is looking like it's going to be a fun year. A few little issues and you will be in business. Seeing that gives me some motivation to get out in the garage and do some work on the car. It's been a long wait for you but it will be worth all the work and hours when you make that first pass down the track.

Spit in the carb never hurt much of anything ;).

Since Brent's Intarweb at the house is still broken, I'll post an update:
Fuel pump is fixed, distributor is re-stabbed, and she purrs along at a 1250rpm idle! Well, maybe "purr" isn't quite the word - it sounds NASTY! :)
Congrats Brent!

I'll get some this weekend and try and post it up. It may be Wed before I get it uploaded though because I'll be out of town Monday and Tuesday.
Thanks for the help D! We probably spend about an hour or two on it last night and now it starts up everytime and sounds great. Throttle response is pretty damn incredible also!
Now the taxman just needs to hurry up with my check so I can get a trans, converter and driveshaft in the car and FINALLY drive it!

It's recorded now but I don't have a computer here that can transfer it to a file that I can upload. We thought my brothers MAC would do it but it won't read a 3.5" DVD disc so you guys will have to wait until Wednesday for me to do it at the office. Sorry!

I turned the fan on....I'm going to play with the video tonight to see if I can get the picture to turn out clearer. Also there is a lot of smoke coming from under the hood because I do not have any kind of gasket or RTV between the header and block so it smokes a bit! I will have to take the exhaust off anyway when the trans goes in, but for now I will live with it.....they don't make exhaust gaskets for the Victor heads so most people just use ultra copper RTV instead.
One thing I'm suprised of is how loud the valvetrain is! You can really hear it in person even over the exhaust. The car isn't as loud as I thought it would be though so that's good!

Solid rollers are noisy, especially when they call for a "loose" lash. Mine is pretty darn noisy.
Timebomb
01-17-2008, 02:49 PM
I've heard plenty of solid rollers before but nothing like this. My lash is set fairly tight right now at 28 cold. I do need to get the motor warm and set it to Comps specs at some point which i think are 24 and 26 but I could be wrong.

Did you end up with a roller or flat tappet mechanical?
