I went to the car show at the Firestone on Hwy 6 tonight and I think I saw the guy that can win the PoMoFo of the year award.
The car was an 80's Malibu with an aluminum headed big block. Not bad, right? Well, let me continue. I first noticed it was primer gray with no hood, but did have drag stars wrapped in standard radials. There were a ton of stickers covering the rear quarter windows.
Closer inspection showed he had 3 lug nuts on the back right wheel and 4 on the front. I never noticed what he had on the other side because I was too busy trying to figure out why there were NO BRAKE DRUMS on the rear?? Then I noticed this was a 9" rear! Uhm..ok. Looking inside the car yielded the most completely gutted car I've ever seen. There were two front seats, but no rear, no rear deck, no dash! The gauges were cheesily mounted in the car. :hmm:
After having a laugh at that, I got a closer look at the engine bay. The MSD coil was just sitting atop the rear of the intake, being kept from falling over by some perhaps not-so-haphazardly routed vacuum line. Next was one of those bug eye looking Edelbrock air cleaners. Nice.... There was also no inner fenderwells. It appeared the guy had 4 cylinder springs because the car sat super low and bottomed out on a small bump when he left.
The last thing really blew me away. I was looking at the engine compartment and saw some wiring just dangling. I got a closer look and realized that I was staring INTO the interior of the car! Wha...?? That's not right!? The dude had a piece of plexiglass covering the whole passenger side of the firewall that had been removed!
This car was definitely not safe to have on the street, much less to race against. Next time I'd really like to get pictures of his car. It was great for a laugh though!!!
