Maybe you shouldn't haul 5 tons of crap around all day in a 1/2 ton truck. What did you do this time? Pictures....we need carnage pictures!

I woke up this morning and found a white Dodge out in the street; might it be good for parts?

Jason,
I checked out the abandoned vehicle a bit ago, and found this (see below).
It looks like this particular unit has a failed bearing in the rear end, allowing the pinion depth to change and load the ring gear teeth in an unexpected point and force, causing the failure. Let me know if there is anything you want off of this vehicle...
On second look, it appears the rear (large) bearing under the head has failed, and the marks you see on the diff were created by the pinion moving back, contacting the diff...

Upon further investigation, the front and rear bearings (or inner and outer if you work at a parts store, LOL!) didn't show signs of failure first, leaving me to believe that the pinion nut backed off and created the excess clearance. Yea, that's my story and I'm sticking with it, LOL!

Typical dodge..... I see many of them with various rear axle problems every week.... About like 4.6's with busted pistons. :-/
