On the way home yesterday I stopped to get gas at the Chevron next to Tomball Fitness. After i was finished fueling up and headed out of the driveway and into traffic,I had to heavy foot it a little and right when i hit 5800rpm the crank decided that it was time to no longer stay together. Not sure what all is actually broke yet, about to tear it down tonight and see,but for sure the block is broke and the crank is broke and the timing chain cover is busted and there are two holes in the oil pan.Guess i'll be down for awhile, looking at either going with a Bennet or D.S.S. short block,to the tune of a 331cid motor with a R block and main support system, looking to make 450-475HP at the flywheel this time around and then hit it with a little dope.BTW all donations to the "build Ray a stroker fund" will be gladly accepted.

I see my luck is spreading to the rest of the PoMoFoers. Sorry to hear about that man. That's one of those deals that you just shake your head and pull over when you hear it happen.
Good luck getting something going again. Unfortunately I've got nothing in the way of donations.

That sucks to hear. I guess you had to feel it was gonna happen sooner or later. That motor gave you a lot of good hard driving before it decided to go. I tell you what, you donate to the "Help Shane buld his stroker" foundation and I will donate an equal amount to the charity of your choise. :D

sounds like you are planning a killer motor, but you don't need a main support with a r block:D

Yeah,I know I don't need a main support with the R block, actually I've never seen a main support for any 4bolt main block.I'm just still a little depressed about it and get my words all jumbled. The main support would be from D.S.S. on the sportman block or a R block from Bennett, pricing is only about $400 difference.Either way the car should make more rwhp on motor with the new motor as it did on gas with the little 308 punk motor.Looks like after the first of the year before I'll have the funds to do it all, afterall I'm a PoMoFo:(

Same thing that happened to my first rebuilt 306. Came out of the gas station and romped on it once (don't think I even saw 5k rpm) then all of the sudden, bang. Sounded like glass shattering (it was the timing cover pieces breaking and hitting the ground). Car starts smoking and dies. Leave an oil trail 1/8 mile long as I roll over to the side of the road. Crank broke after the first two rods. Bent two rods, ruined two pistons, bent four valves, busted oil pump, block, timing cover and chain, distributor, and I think thats about it. So much for the $800 recent rebuild. Had about 3k miles on the rebuild and less than 10 1/4 mile passes.

hey, sorry to hear that.
you think it was due to the gas you just bought or has this been an ongoing problem?
at least you already have a plan in order to shoot for.
