I got a dremel to grind down some welds and the 2 bits I used are already dead. At this rate, it would take me 3 more packages of bits, which are $5 a piece. I don't mind paying for it, but was hoping Dremel had some other bits that last longer. Anyone have ideas?

when I ported my gt 40 I used endmill bits and they ate that aluminum up like buttah. I don't think they'll fit in a dremel but you could use a drill or die grinder. Have you tried the metal grinding bits instead of the stone ones?
ps. my log on is rrkersch

Find a machine shop supply company and tell them what you need to grind and the tool you are using. Usually the sales person can sell you just what you need.
I have done some porting with air powered high speed tools and a supply co. or a tool truck is where I bought my bits. I did pay about $20.00 per bit but they last a very long time.
There is one located right near the beltway just off of west little york. Go north on west little york from the beltway feeder road and make the first right. The building is maybe 100 yards down on the right side. They are the first business in the strip of warehouses and you can see lathes and mills from outside through the windows. Sorry cant remember the name of the place but they have a large supply of tools.
Hope this helps.

Is that AJ Rod and Tool, Martin? I know they are off of old Hempstead Highway, somewhere in that area...

No that is not the shop I'm thinking about, but is near the same area. My 41 year old brain is :fu:
I can drive there and find it but sure cannot remember the name.

Rusty..
It'll take placing an order, but check out www.carbidebur.com and look at their "1/4" burs on 1/8" shank" section. I have two of their small-shank carbide burs and they work awesome. I used one of them to notch a cast iron block for a 347 rotating assy and it's still going strong

How long does shipping take, Darrell? I was really hoping to get this done by this weekend.

Dunno Rusty...I shipped standard ground and it took a couple days. This weekend might be pushing it unless you do something like 2-da air

Ah, well i screwed around and forgot to call them. I definitely won't be getting it this week from them. I'll just try a couple of the local shops.
