View Full Version : An end to 2005....

What an interesting year it's been! I was watching Anderson Cooper on CNN where he reviewed the solved and unsolved mysteries of 2005. I'm still kind of shocked that Deep Throat came out on his own to reveal his true identity. I remember reading about Watergate in history books while in High School (young for some, old for others) and always wondered who was it!

As with the rest of the world there's been a lot of changes, highs, and lows in 2005 for the PoMoFo's. My convertible was wrecked, and I'm ever grateful for the help that showed up in my garage to get me to the very next Fun Ford event with the new car. Something I considered impossible as I sat in the pits at FFW/Louisiana drinking myself into a stupor.

Some of the other things I can think of:

Fred/Blue91 finally got his new car running and out of the closet...only to take it back under the knife for some streetable changes.
Brent/Big Shot finally broke his stock shortblock. Something that everybody knew would happen, none of us knew when...and I can say I was actually there filming the pass that his motor finally gave up the ghost on. Now he's stepping up his setup in every way you can imagine. Earlier this year with a new paint job, and now with a completely new motor and trans!
Rick/Maverick. Oh our classroom clown finally has a RUNNING hot rod. How long has this project been going on and how many hands have turned a wrench on it? Now we just need to "encourage" him to finish up the details so he can get this car to the track!
Tyro/TXBandit. His revolving garage door sold the yellow outlaw car which is living on in another PoMoFo's hands and he's acquired another hot rod! Complete with Yates heads and a fresh paint job! I foresee many wheelies in 06 for this guy!
Chris/Guffinator. He's become a pro at swapping head gaskets, but atleast his car has a nice looking NEW paint job on it! He's changing combo's and hasn't even filled me in on the details. I guess it's time to go camp out in his garage and help myself to his beer fridge until he spills the beans!
Jenn/Darva. Our beloved "Pit Grrrrl" bought her first house this year AND has a bun in the oven to boot! What's next?
Chris/Nay/Neighbors/Otis. The multiple personality freak of PoMoFo still has a few projects up his sleeve, but at least he finally changed the head gaskets on his Blackie! Not to mention he OD'd on crawfish at my house one night only to wind up in the hospital the next night!
Nick...aka NiCk ;). He got HITCHED, bought his first house, AND decided to pull his motor and change combo's. All this while working some long and hard hours making donuts (sorry Nick, couldn't resist :) ).
Bubba/Bubstang. He's gone from a mild mannered, hydraulic roller, automatic overdrive convertible to a solid roller/c-4 shifting beast! and now he wants to install EFI? Who's got the bug? YOU GOT DAH BUG! :)
Matt/Bubba's Bro. The poor guy sold his former Street Bandit chassis to some poser (me), and now is stuck behind the wheel of an Outlaw 10.5w car with some huge hair drier on it! The last I heard it was on Murillo's dyno and had max'ed out the dyno during some tuning. When I asked him about it his only response was 'How did you find out it was at Murillo's?' :D
Martin/89 Coupe. This guy just wants to race. His car decided to get friendly with the wall, he rebuilds it, and he then goes on to win a local true 10.5 event! Meanwhile his son signs up with Uncle Sam and graduates from Basic making everyone proud!
Alex/AEkrot. He tied the knot this year and still goes out racing! What a guy!
Ray/rsnow. Where to start with this guy?! He builds his very first house, reproduces (his wife has a bun in the oven), and converts his car from EFI to carb all in the same year. I wonder when he gets time to sleep?
Mike/Silversnake. He finally gets his car in the mags after being told YEARS ago that it would show up.

I'm sure that there's plenty I'm not recalling right now, as that was just the stuff off of the top of my head...but it's just a snap shot that 2005 was a busy year for us.

Here's to wild, and fun, 2006! :litebeer: :racing:

How could you forget the whole DOOOM! grudge match? That thread (and it's follow-up companion thread) is one of the longest in PoMoFo history ;)

Have to give props to Raj. He had his shit together and making TnT passes while our junk was still in pieces.

Chad,

I didn't forget. I just didn't want to remember that I lost $100 to Raj over it...and his secret weapon was right under my NOSE the whole time since I knew he had used it on his previous combo.

Who knows....maybe there will be a re-match? :)

That's for sure!!!

I had house guests for each hurricane!

The Katrina vics decided to move out to my neck of the woods. After they get settled in there will be a new PoMoFo on here with a supercharged 347 combo. :)

Great read, Ben.

I can't say it enough, Thanks to all who helped me get the Maverick to actually move under it's own power.

Happy New Year PoMoFo's!

Awesome Ben! I'm at Matt's this week. One more race in the Outlaw car (Jan 7) then its coming completely apart. Cage has to get upgraded then getting a bigger, badder set of twins. It'll be sweet!

My car is going to be driven as is for a while. Cage isn't legal anymore, etc...

Ben, just be glad the "pink dress" race never happend! I did have a surprise for you that year, there was no way I was going to lose that one.

Anyhow, I am sure if we bet again it will be either you or Chad winning, I have a VERY small budget this year and I really should take the nitrous off and not push my luck. I will bet because I'm a good sport and will have no problems sending your own money back to ya :)

I built my first car from the ground up, literally.

Bought an 89 Coupe, VERY rough....Carl can attest to that, he trailored it back to my house for me. Roller, no interior but the sheetmetal and a 10Pt Cage. Spent about 2 months gettin he body where I wanted it, nice and flawless, shaved the antenna, trunk lock, and gas door. Got the harwood 6in to the shield Cowl.

Got a wild hare up my ass and threw in an LS1. Cammed (232/238 605/610), Long Tubes, ASP Pulley, Full Aeromotive fuel system, 3800Stall in front of a TH350. When I finally started it, I think I made Elvis roll in his grave. It was dirty. (Thorobred can attest to that, too).

For the 8 seconds I drove it, it was pure madness/heaven/hell/NUTS.

Sorry, I forgot to add the part I hate.

We put it on the lift to fix the Tranny Gasket and the shifter cable. Upon taking it off of the lift (mind you, the car has only been started 2 times, and rolled once) we started it up, let it idle for a minute or two, just to raise the temps and check fluids. Well, I slapped her in first, let it idle around the parkin lot, shifted through the gears, and turned around at the end. Came to a stop, testing brakes, worked fine. I stood on the brake pedal and SLLLLLLOWLY added into the throttle, getting a little heat worked up in the stall (3800), well, i got to about 2400, things were good, 2800, still goin good, 3400, nice, its holdin, and i feel like a scared monkey in a cage of rage. I let off the gas, then off the brake, exept as soon as i did that, the car bucked uncontrollably forward, probably pulling the wheels, lol, and i stood BOTH feet on the brakes hoping to god i could control this monster.

Unfortunatly, I couldnt. I went head on into a foxbody, got a minor concussion and some cuts. thank the Lord for cages, otherwise I would of been through the non-exsistant winshield. I wasn't hurt bad, but had to sell off the remaining salvagable parts of my car to pay for the other guys damages. (Race car, just finished, no insurance) :ashamed:  :bawl: :bawl: :bawl:

Oh yeah, Forgot.

2005- Got married, got a dog, got a house, woot! (thanks nick. lol)
