Raj,

Have you received your winnings? If so, how about photo proof for us loosers? :crying:

Ben-

Thanks for the magazine! I don't have that issue for some reason. My plan for next year is to mat or laminate all the magazine articles of my cars and friends cars and put them on a wall in the basement. Yours will look good up there.

Not to HiJack, but Ben, you need to get ahold of the magazine company and get them to do a follow up with pictures of the old vert and pictures of the new coupe with the motor transferred, and the ET difference, etc...

Maybe it was powered by twin t70's and the other turtles blew by him so fast that it knocked him off course? :D

FWIW, I just emailed Dr. Jamie Meyer the following email:

I don't know if you remember me, but for some strange reason I think you will. This is Ben Frazier. I had the 1991 Saleen (replica) converitble that you shot at a Clash of the Titans event in San Antonio, TX. The car finially showed in 5.0 Mustang in July of 2004 ( http://saleen.v8mustang.com/pics/car/50-mag/ ) .

There have been a plethora of things that have happened that I think might make a good story for you. You shot the car around Labor Day weekend in 2003 and it showed up the next year, in July 04, just like you said it would. At the time the car had a Novi 2000 and it had run was a 10.32 on pump gas, which you put into the article. The next year I swapped it over to a turbo (76mm) and ran a best of 9.96. At FFW in Louisana at No Problem Raceway this year I was tech'd to only run 11.0's and had already informed Jay, the T/S tech inspector, that I was going to run deep into the 9's on my 3rd pass and was prepared to forfeit my winnings for running faster than what I was legally allowed to. After the 30+ mile cruise I pulled into the parade row just like every other T/S car. While parked there, waiting my turn to pull up to the staging lanes, the car was rear ended during the first round of True Street ( http://saleen.v8mustang.com/pics/car/wreck ) by a guy whose N2O install had caught him off guard while trying to "show off" in front of the crowd. I hadn't even made my first competition pass with the turbo setup. The ironic part was that the day before the wreck I had stopped to look at a former Street Bandit chassis. My plan at the time was that I was going too fast for what the convertible was legal allowed to run and that I should upgrade to a chassis that had a roof, a certified cage, and would allow me to safely run the combo I had built. The night of my wreck I called the owner of the chassis and told him to consider it sold. I picked it up just 3 days after the wreck of the convertible. I had a LOT of help from my friends in swapping the drivetrain. Just like when I built the motor, I offered beer and pizza to anyone who could turn a wrench. I swapped the drivetrain from the convertible into the coupe and the new car was running within just 6 weeks after the wreck, and that including wiring the car from scratch since the coupe was a carbuerator car when it was running in Street Bandit. Pics of the coupe are here http://saleen.v8mustang.com/pics/car/coupe/ . I didn't have enough time to test it out before FFW/Houston but I showed up there anyway, the first weekend in May and just over a month after the convertible was wrecked. I had some gremlins that prevented me from running the car past 3000 rpm, and I tried to fix them by wrenching in the pits all weekend, unsuccessfuly. However, I had made it there with a car! Something I thought would have been impossible just a month and a half earlier. Shortly after that I did make my first full pass down the track and was rewarded nicely. I finished out 2005 with the exact same drivetrain running a 9.32 @ 145, stock electronics, small hydraulic roller cam (226/220 and 540-ish lift), and basically the same tune. I even made a video of the runs, since they were the Clash of the Titans finals at Houston here http://media.putfile.com/Bens-runs-at-COTT-World-Finals-2005 . I had to enter a class that I was too slow for considering the modifications to the chassis and suspension, and was the slowest car in the field by a FULL second. I still managed to some how make it to the quarter finals and win some money in my first heads up event!

2005 was an incredible year for me. I lost a former maganize street car, but at the same time I gained a safer and faster chassis, and did it in record time with the support of my family and friends.

I don't know if this is "news worthy" from your viewpoint, but it definitely is from everybody that helped maked it happen on this side. Also, I don't have Mike Galimi's email address, but I'd appreciate it if you'd forward this on to him as well, since he was there with you at the time.

I'm completely broke, so nothing except an electric water pump and some minor suspension changes. I also have to freshen the motor, and if it looks really beat up I'm thinking about taking the nitrous off of it.

FWIW, I just emailed Dr. Jamie Meyer the following email:

FYI,

I just heard back from Dr. Meyer.

Ben,

Of course, I remember you!

Thanks for the update. It sounds like you should be kicking some serious ass
next year. I hope you can make an NMRA event, so I can relate the story to the
crowd. I should be at the COTT in '06, but you know you can find me at NMRA.

And, yes, I'll send this on to Mr. Galimi. He's a good guy!

Happy New Year,
Jamie

BTW, Mike Galimi was with him when he shot pics of my car for 5.0 Mustang. Galimi is a photographer for MM&FF and was at both Texas FFW events last year.

That photo shoot was a lot of fun Ben! I'm glad I was <s>hungover and woke up late</s> thinking about future mods in a trance-like coma, LOL!

O!

Edited to technical clarity!

Congrats Ben! Would be cool to have your ride in a mag twice!

I'm hoping to have mine all bling'd up by the next Mustang Madness show here. Bob McClurg comes every year, the DualieStang just might catch his eye!
