The ZipZap Mach I's from Radio Shack....upgradable, variable frequency, comes with a charger, but they are small. Can that be fun??
1:16 R/C car 2005 GT, Unknown frequency, have to buy the charger/battery seperately or use 6 AA's at a time, not upgradeable that I know of, but they are pretty.
So, which would you rather have? Btw, I am buying one for a child and one for an adult(not me). I have never bought R/C cars, and am clueless, please help...TIA

Fun for you and the boy? Sure. Don't get them confused with competition level RC's, because they aren't.

Having spent over $6K on custom R/C monster trucks (Mad Force, Tmaxx, Emaxx, RC10GT, RC10T3), RB Concept motors, making my own battery packs, turning motors, porting exhaust, and customizing nearly everything on each toy, I can answer about any question you may have.
But to answer the Radio Shack question, the car will be a slug. The batteries are the cheapest available, low MaH and the charger only trickle charges. Now, if you get a battery from ballisticbatteries.com, solder on a Deans connector and charge at 4-5amps, the car will run about 40% faster. I had this POS RS car that I used for my dog to chase. When I used a 3000Mah Sanyo 6-cell battery charged at 4.5amps, the car ran twice as long and was twice as fast as the POS battery that RS provides.
Also, get several batteries and a discharge light. Never charge a hot battery...you'll run it. Never run the battery down too far...you can reverse the polarity of a cell and ruin the battery pack.

Thanks for all the info guys!!!
I doubt we will be getting into them that much. I just wanted something fun for my son and my bf to do together. I did end up picking up the Mach I ZipZaps for 1/2 price. They were on clearance, so I figured why the heck not?
And tomorrow, all of last years model XMods will be half off as well. I dont think my son would be able to put his together on his own, but they look like they will be a little more fun than the ZipZaps.
On a side note, the clerk kept trying to sell me the Camaro R/C car and I kept telling him I only wanted Mustang R/C cars. I said that I didnt like GM products. He said, didnt that rivalry die like back in the 50's? I asked him what he drove and he said he drove a Mazda. So I told him, No I guess you wouldnt understand. :D
