I am putting a duraspark dist. in a factory roller 302 block. I have a trick flow stage two cam in it. Will I need a special bronze gear or will the stock gear work?

you will need the steel gear to match the hydro roller cam. i guess an 85 duraspark would have a steel gear as that year had roller cams. all other years of duraspark will have the cast iron gear and will not work for your application.

I went the high roller way and got the gear from msd.... like 60+ bucks

you'll need the steel gear for that cam. joseph is right about the 85 distributors. if you're gonna buy the gear seperately, be sure you know which one you need. ford made 2 shaft diameter sizes. .468" and .531"

I recently went thru this delema. Which gear to use with with cam you would think would have an easy answer. Check out this thread of foureyedpride.

If you look through there you will also find a theory about the dizzy bottoming out and causing premature wear on the gear.

I checked this on my recent motor build by checking with a torque wrench how mutch it took to turn the block over with the dizzy loose and bolted down. You should not have any differencial between the two.
