Got the stage2 in. It didn't fix any shifting issues into 2nd gear as I kinda guessed it wouldn't. The clutch feels stock-maybe a touch stiffer.

So how much labor do shops usually charge to look at the tranny?
I am not going to do it myself as I don't want to buy all the tools needed and maybe only use them once or twice.

Until then no racing thru 2nd or at least I will have to start in 2nd hehehe

Ken,

Quoting Teague (trkpony): "I talked with a guy I know, Rick (Y2KGT), he paid $1200 to get his rebuilt, I dunno if thats without the core charge refund or what but I was floored when I heard that!"

I'm in the middle of doing Teague's T45 (a spare for him, actually), and have half of a write-up in the tech section already. It's quite a different beast than a T5, and takes some different techniques to tackle it. Rebuild kits are hard to find, and so far Hanlon is the only source, and they are $275.

IMHO, I think Darrell could do the rebuild, given the right resources. I don't want to talk about what he's willing to charge for the rebuild, but for me, and the fact that it's 1.5 times as tricky as a T5, I think I'll quote $175 for labor ( I get $125 for a T5 rebuild). As far as labor time, I'd guess, with experience, that the T45 could be rebuilt in 8-10 hours (once out)...

Well I just chatted with Eric Varner- I believe you know him.
He suggested that if my tranny is to bad, to move up to a 3550?
How reliable and how much are these?

LOL! Yes, I know Eric :)! We swapped his tranny in the pits at FFW Houston a couple of months ago; good guy!

The only thing I'm not sure of is the bell for a mod car. I don't know if/or who makes them; you might hit D&D up or Hanlon about that. A 3550 may be a good deal, but that depends on the cost of all of the parts...

From having the T45 apart, I can tell you that the component sizes (mainshaft, bearings, gears) are very similar to a 3550/TKO. In fact, the T45 has the large output like a TKO. The only Q about the T45 is the input, and it's actually bigger diameter than a 3550...This doesn't necassarily mean it's stronger, but you may not be getting a big jump in torque capacity by going 3550...

Well parts alone are around 200.00 the way I figure it, I could be off. And the lowest quote for labor up here has been 300.00 so 500.00 total. :(

Hell with the 4:10s I can launch in 2nd gear better than most chevys can launch in first hehe.
Downshifting to 2nd from 3rd is fine, its just the upshift from 1st.

Ken...who'd you get to put the clutch in? Tim?

As far as price on a rebuild...Let's hash it out when I get back if that's the route you want to take

D- I can't contact Tim since I don't have his home phone and his cell is gone. I had Steve's Transmission do the clutch.
Yah it will deffinetly have to wait until you get back or I can get a hold of Tim.

Ahh! Cool

I don't really know Tim, so I wouldn't have a clue as to how to get a hold of him. I know he lives in Grandfield, OK, but that's about it.
