I think I have squeezed everything out of the 331 that I can get out of it. I have about 200 passes on the motor and about the finish up my second set of springs. I am deploying in October for 6 months and I am thinking of having the motor freshened up. While it was out I was wondering if anyone would recomend making any changes. I know the old saying goes if it isnt broke dont fix it but I would like to get as close to the 9's as possible. Only problem currently I can not afford to step up to a Dart Block. I was thinking of Upgrading the rods and maybe putting a custom cam in there.

My current Setup is as follows:

302 B50 block .30 over
Scatt 4340 Steel Crank internally Balanced 3.25
Probe CNC Forged Rods 5.4
Probe Custom Pistons 13.5:1
Comp Cams Solid Roller .672/.672 260/268 106
TEA TW Stage 2 Heads
Super Victor Intake
BIGS 750 Stage 5
KOOKS 1 7/8 Headers
3 Inch Xpipe
3 Inch MAC Pro Dumps
Dynamic M2
PTC 8 inch convertor 6000 stall
4.56 gear

Car weighs 3025 lbs with driver and runs 10.50@128mph. This is the sheet from when the engine was built. I would like to keep the power band from 6000-8000rpms where it is now so I can still run the same convertor.

I wouldn't try to get anymore power out of it in that stock type block. I would run it as is, maybe look at getting more weight out of the car if you want to go faster. You could get a custom cam cut for it, but again you're squeezing more power out of it and a stock block won't take it, especially at those RPMS. I would save pennies for an R or Dart block, just slap some new rings/bearings in it and keep on racing.

Put the car on a diet!! Then work on getting the 60' down. A little difference in the 60' will result in a big difference down track.

Not too much more I can take out of the car. Its pretty bare as it is. The heater and a/c stuff is still in the dahs, but my cage goes infront of it making it impossible to get out.

Nothing is impossible! Try a sawzall!

If your car weighs 3000 with you in it then it weighs right around 2800 empty. There is quite a bit of weight to be removed in my opinion. Be creative!

There are some ways to make a little more power from that combo, but could get exspensive. You could go with lighter pistons, aluminum rods, titanium valves, keepers and locks, maybe a custom cam, mill the heads a little and get some more compression out of it,go with roller cam bearings and such. Those things will produce a little more power and help it survive a little longer as well.

Yes it can be done. I pulled all the a/c stuff out of my car with the cage in the way. I couldn't pull the dash, but everything still came out. Now if you are wanting to reuse anything that is a different issue, as nothing that came out of mine was reusable. Hell I don't think anything was recognizable.

Was a sawzall your friend in this process?

I remember seeing someone post pics of a red coupe who used (and abused) a hole-saw to cut out about 432 2"and smaller holes (in the door panels, underneath the dash, in the hood braces - turned the antenna down a few thou, etc).

Forrest maybe?

I just got a PM from Brian Tooley on Hardcore 50 saying he would fix my heads.

As some of you might know. I have a set of TEA TW stage 2 heads on my car that dont flow the advertised CFM. They are actually where my system is bottle necked. Well the guy that sold me the heads Brian Tooley at TEA told me to send the heads back and he will fix them free of charge. I built my combo around his flow numbers and I am kinda pissed about it. But I wouldnt send them off until I pull my motor down to have it freshened. DO I trust him to fix the heads again. All I will be out is shipping, but I will be deployed while he is fixing them so my communication with him will be limited. What do yall think?
