Went out to HRP last night to run the car. This is the first time I've ran the car in a couple of months. Ben and Fred came over last weekend and we found a problem with the cars timing, it turns out on my previous runs with the current combo I've been running on 19 degrees total timing, but the car still ran well on the nitrous. We reflashed the chip with both a NA program (tune#1) at 32 degrees total and a nitrous tune at 27 degrees total (tune #2). Both tunes are the same other than the timing, I also have a MSD timing control unit in the car to adjust the timing in the car (this thing is the best money I've spent on the car). I also went from 1 5/8" BBK long tubes to 1 3/4" BBK longtubes.
First pass of the night I want to see how the car is running so I decide to run it on motor. My car has never ran well on motor becuase of the torque convertor and tonight wasn't much different, it ran a 12.80@109 with a crappy 60'. A different convetor would wake it up but it runs so damn good on nitrous I'm not gonna touch it.
Second pass was the first NOS pass. I left the #1 tune in the car and pulled 7 degrees out with the timing controler. The car responded with a 1.53 6.81 100.8 10.73 123.8. Not bad, this was a new personal best.
I let the car cool off for about an hour and decide I'll leave everything alone and try 2 more degrees of timing (27 total) and see what happens on the #1 tune. This time it didn't like the timing. 1.53 6.82 100.2 10.82 123.2. I didn't have much bottle pressure during this run and it felt like it. When I got back to the pits I was at less than 900 psi.
So for the last pass of the night Carl and myself decide to have a match race for a tech card (free entry for any Friday or Sunday night). We set up the race Scott and I make sure I have plenty of bottle pressure, I pull to the line with it at a little over 1100 this time. I also decide to just try the #2 tune on the chip (27 total) and nothing else. We are racing heads up pro tree, we both stage and I cut a .16 light to Carl's .4 or so and I never see him all the way down the track. The car launched the hardest it did all night and I really had to drive the car on this pass, it was all over the track but I knew it was on a good run by the 1/8th mile. It responded with a 1.51 6.77 101.4 10.71 124.4. Carl had been having issues all night with his car and only ran an 11.0, but thanks for the race, it's always fun to race against a friend, esp when there is a free reward for the winner. I was going to run Scotty with his Duster but he was having issues also, so that never panned out....maybe next time Scotty!
All in all it was a good night, a new best in less than ideal conditions (it was humid as hell last night) and best of all........THE MIRACLE SHORTBLOCK STILL LIVES!!!!!
