Yesterday when I was going to my g/f's house, my car did some really strange things. It got hot (hot to me is over the halfway mark on the stock temp guage) and it was running fine, but then all of a sudden I shifted into second and pressed the gas and the damn thing acted like it was only firing on about 5 cyls. It coughed and sputtered and acted like it wanted to die. I took my foot off of the clutch and revved the engine, no problem. shifted into third, same thing. As I went around the last corner (I was on a hill), I put it back in second, and the same thing happened. After I revved the engine and then let out the clutch, it would go, but when I shift it would do this. I said the hell with it for the night, it was about 105 degrees yesterday around 5 and with no a/c you know I'm sweatin' like a PoMoFo when I get home. I got in the car this morning and drove all of the way to work without any problems. What gives? Computer malfunction? Misfire? Coil get too hot? any ideas would be most appreciated.

i had some problems vaguely similar with my corolla a few years back after it got some water in it. it would drive fine at very low rpms but much higher than idle the engine would cut out _severely_, much harder than any revlimiter. the thing was that the car ran fine right after it had all the water in it and it didnt start messing up for a few days. it turned out that water got in the ecu and corroded some of it. i dont remember if the engine would rev in neutral or not, but i think it would.

hope that helps some =)

It could have been heat related. I know that foxes have the well known issue for the TFI going bad, but usually they completely stall the car. Perhaps yours semi-broke due to the heat.
