As most of you know I have been transplanting a big block into my Mustang for the last year and a half. Since I am a PoMoFo I had to build just about every part of the car. I still spent around $30 grand. Have no idea where all the money came from but I have eaten a lot of sandwiches in the last year.
The motor is basically a .030 over 460 with a BIG "old school" flat tappet cam.
Motorsport SCJ heads, intake, dominator, fogger nitrous, powerglide combination. The whole top half of the motor is Motorsports "FoMoCo" parts.
Other than a couple of mistakes forgetting to plug in the nitrous soleniods after testing the circuits, everything went real well for the first time out.
First 4 passes were on motor. I was only planning on one.
first pass 6.64 at 106.4
2nd pass 6.63 at 105.9
3rd pass 6.57 at 106.76
4th pass 6.58 at 106.33
This was with very little timing, a nitrous converter and a carb setup for nitrous use. I was hoping for a little more on motor but now feel that the tune was very conservative (not enough timing) 60 fts were only in the 1.5 range.
Now with a 200 shot of nitrous .026 nitrous jets
5th pass 1.38 60 ft
5.91 at 118.17
6th pass 1.40 60 ft
5.88 at 119.62
These runs were on some very old and used up slicks. The car would start to grab and then spin the tires and kill the 60 ft.
The plugs came out looking perfect. Not one sign of any detonation.
I really believe I can get this car into the 5.7 to 5.6 range with just a 200 shot but have decided to go ahead and up the pills to a 300 shot and tune that instead. I was going to wait but everything is working so well I feel it is time to crank it up some.
The car on motor drives very easy down the track. On the nitrous passes I actually felt it move around a little, had to steer it some but very controllable.
I need to thank Alex Ekrot. Without spending the last few years helping him out there is no way I could have put together a combination that worked this well the first time out. He has been tremendous in helping me any way he can.
My wife Lisa for letting me live my dream and build a real race car. This is something I have wanted to do since I was a teenager.
Joe at G&G machine in Tomball. My motor was supposed to be ready to assemble, I bought it used. I took it to Joe in pieces and he found several things that were not right. Fixed them and at a very good price.
Everyone who has given my any support at all. I cannot remember all the people that have helped but all of it is appreciated.
The only mishap was my left tail light lens flew off on the final pass and broke in two pieces. I cannot complain since this was the only thing that broke LOL
Anyone have a left LX tail light lens for sale?
