View Full Version : FFW Brackets question...

Ok, I'm in a situation where I don't know what class to run. I'm getting bent on the whole FFW/True Street scene so I'm considering Open Comp. But I'm not liking the fact that in addition to my $100 entry fee I have to join FFW (another $35/year) and get a permanent number in the class. So I've started thinking about the bracket classes. I know there's Street Ford, which is a trophy class, Quick Ford, a "no electronics" class, and Fast Ford, an "electronics" class.
So my question is w/ SF. *HINT HINT SHANE* The entry is only $50?! Does that cover Saturday AND Sunday? Or do I have to shell out another $50 for Sunday? If it's both days I may run SF or QF just to save a few bucks!

The entry fee is paid only once and is good for both days.

Load up on the contingency stickers before that weekend even if you run street ford, I won just as much in contingency as I did winning T/S brackets.
I'd run quick ford if I wre you, true that SF might have a lot more ducks, but it will also have alot 14 second cars too. Either way, quick ford still allows a lot more racing that T/S does. Usually 3 time trials + 1st round + buy back, most days you end up running 6-7 passes.

I just did, comparing who pays what for Open Comp, the Brackets, or T/S brackets vs what I actually have on my car... Here's what I came up with.
Accufab Throttle Body - 5.0L Type 100/50 ALL
Edelbrock Super Victor Intake 300/100 OC & TS
TEA TW Heads 300/100 ALL
Trick Flow Twisted Wedge Heads 300/100 OC
Weld Wheels (all four wheels) 50/25 ALL
Performance Automatic Transmissn 300/100 OC, 150/50 Brackets/TS
OC is definitely going to get more attention than the regular brackets with higher contingency payouts.
What makes you think I should chekc out QF over SF other than there's a payout associated with QF?

I understand completely where you are coming from Ben. You are finally seeing my point. I am not giving True Street or its participants any trash talk. But, it just never did anything for me. I enjoy the competition of actually racing someone and knowing I have to beat them. Even if its bracket racing. Now as to which one to run in. Well, it all depends. Street Ford is the cheapest class of ALL the FFW classes which to race in. The $50 covers the entire weekend. The downside to that class is its only a trophy class. In that class, the majority of the racers are not very good bracket racers. If you can cut mid .050 lights and run within .02-.03 of your dial, you will usually go far. Quick Ford Costs more ($85 this year). However, the class payout is $750 to the winner each day. Sounds great right? Only catch to racing Quick Ford is you need to be a little bit better (not saying YOU are not good enough, Ben). The majority of the cars/trucks in this class are pretty good and you have to be on top of your game to make it into the pay-out levels. It all depends on what you want to do.
I have been running Street Ford almost every year I have attended FFW. I always told myself I wasn't going to move up to the next level till I had actually won and felt that class no longer presented much of a challenge. With winning Sat and runnering up on Sunday at FFW, Ennis, I feel it is finally time to move up to Quick Ford.
There is NOTHING wrong with racing Street Ford. I had an absolute blast. Its the perfect class to race in if you are not a regular bracket racer and just want to go as many rounds as possible. If your bracket racing skills are so so, you might be a quick easy kill and have a short day in Quick Ford.

Ben, do you have an Ed Curtis cam? His cams qualify for Comp Cams contingency too.

I've got a Cam Motion cam in the car now. I do still have my Ed cam, but it's just a paper weight right now.

I think for a lot of people, the TS draw is the "coverage"....or perception if you will, of the TS competition. FFW pumps it up, but outside of a MMFF write-up....there just ain't a whole lot of substance there.
I agree that the QF and SF brackets are the way to go in terms of both actual competition and from the economic angle. Most people forget about the contingency monies.....but I sure wouldn't.
I normally run TT....but QF and SF are looking better all the time.
