Marc (Alex In Houston) came over today and worked his majic on the Maverick's electrical debacle.
After he corrected some bad connections and ran a few new wires, we were able to fire up the Maverick - if only for a few seconds at a time. There's still an issue with the ignition switch and a few other 'bad' connections.
The main problem now is a leaking tranny servo gasket. When it would start up for a few seconds at a time - an extruded servo gasket allowed tranny fluid to spray everywhere.
I'll get a new ignition switch and servo gasket by next weekend - we're planning on getting after it again next Sunday.
I'm sure with Marc's thorough understanding of Ford EFI and all things electric, combinded with his high-energy level, it'll be running very soon.
Thanks again, Marc. :hail:

Kewl deal. Did you get a REAL ground run? I assume so! What connections were "bad"? Anything with the NEW wiring (efi stuff) or was it mostly with the old stuff and how it hooked in to any of the new stuff?

FYI in the "old school" ign switch "start" feeds power through a seperate circuit than "run". This was so you could have a resistor wire to run about 6-9 volts to the coil while running and a full 12V while cranking. Make sure you aren't using a pink wire from the ign switch for power -cause it's the resistor (at least in the 60's cars)
Looks like 2005 is the year of the PoMoFo's - Alex In Houston, Blue91, Maverick, Otis and me will all have new pretty awesome cars running this year (hope I didn't leave any projects out.)

Fred on the grounds, I re-configured the whole deal. I set it up pretty much as an isolated ground system (like we did in car stereo because car grounding systems can be so "dirty") An 8 guage wire was run from the battery's ground (in back) to the front of the car. Then all the front electrical grounds (2 from the motor,20-40-60 and 02 sensor ground) were run to this wire via a bolt/lug we attached at the front. This eliminates the need for ground to carry through the frame of th car and gives all the components the same voltage potential (since the battery and all components from it are working from the same grounding source)
FE_Rex, I forgot all about the ballast resistor they put in line. I remember reading through Ignition system instructions (Crane, MSD) and they mention them in older Fords and how to bypass them. I pretty much had to African re-engineer the whole EFI harness anyhow (whom ever laid it in did a crappy job) No way it would have ran with the way they installed it. Relays were wrong, NUMEROUS open circuits (like how hard or time consuming is it to simply Ohm out some wires?), TFI power wrong (had the start wire for the TFI tied to Ignition instead of just Start, that was fun to figure out) The fuel regulator was plumbed wrong (caused the pumo to dead head). I think that was all we had to do to make it crank.
I think the lasat issues are the Ignition Switch and the Solenoid (think it was wired backwards as well. The car runs until you let off the key from engaging the starter)
I'm going to re-configure the whiole Ignition system along with the power circuits. Shoukld eliminate all 35 years worth of wiring issues (the car is a 70 model)

Just an f.y.i.
This has nothing to do with the electrical work Darrel (Red95gts) did for me. 'D' did a GREAT job in trimming the harness down for me and doing what he could with the time he had (and Thanks again, D).

If the maverick is like the 60's fords I mess with here is how power originally got to the coil
Ign in start
power come from the second small pole on the fender solenoid and went under the dash to a bulkead feed out to the engine compartment - power went straight though the soleniod to the coil
Ign in run
power comes to the center pole of the ign switch out another terminal into a resistance wire (usually pink) and goes to the same bulkhead terminal to go to the coil.
A lot of times just replacing the resistance wire with a non-resistor is enough to solve the problem.

Glad to see it's just about running!
