Should be able to fire it up this weekend. After all the time (1.5 years) and money (never added it all up) I really have mixed feelings. Kind of like right before I got married  This has been the biggest project I have ever done and of course it is never completely finished.
I am just waiting on one more parts order to which should be here Friday. Hopefully I will run all the FSTA races, might try a gear change and run a couple of COTT"s in True 10.5. Might even try a few index races. I doubt I will have enough power this first year to win many but I probably don't need any more until I learn to drive the car. I should make 950 to 1000 horses. It will be fun win or lose. Thats what it is all about.
I think back a few years ago when a friend Roger Hupfauer, gave me a ride in his low 11 second Mustang. Thats how this all got started.
Here's a couple of pics.

It is a 466 CID BBF. I plan on building a stroker in one year. Somewhere between 550 and 600 CID. I will use everything else except the short block. I still have a lot of research to decide what size motor will work the best with the parts I have.

I'm just picking this motor up - I may not have money for gas. I certainly don't have money for 10.5 tires :blue:

Very cool! best of luck with it.

Is Alex still running his car? Havent heard much from him lately (but I might not be looking hard enough  )

I caught your link to your website about the build up awhile back on westside. Very impressive.

Yeah Alex is still racing. The car was down for most of last year. He did manage to make a few races toward the end of the season. I know he ran a new best of 8.35 @ like 165 mph at the COTT Finals in Houston.

Martin beat me to it, I was going to mention that too. Alex got married! Him and Alanna (spelled right?). He was selling parts to clean out his garage so he could sell the house.

When are you going to fire it up? Maybe I'll come by and check it out. Do you have any nitrous left?

Yes sir, I do have some nitrous. Hopefully Saturday afternoon or Sunday I will fire it up for a short couple of minutes. Still have some work to finish so I really don't know exactly when. I have not rushed any of this so I sure am not going to start rushing now. Give me a holler if you would like to stop by and or get your bottle filled.

We'll it will be a few more weeks before it runs. I bought a BTE straight cut gearset for my Powerglide at $1000.00. I bought a Denny's driveshaft (nitrous ready) with the hardened yoke for a tailshaft roller bearing for $570.00.
Double checked all measurments before ordering. To make a long story short, the s##t don't fit. :bawl:
After checking everything out I have found out that BTE now builds their output shaft with longer splines. This is the problem. So the dealer I ordered from is going to send me a new output shaft assembly. I just have to pull and dissamble the trans, install the new parts and put it all back together.
At least it isn't costing anything.
Its just kind of depressing. I have everything in my hands to finish the car and fire it up but I get to take it halfway back apart first.

Wouldn't longer splines on the output shaft be ok with the yoke? I would think the problem would come in when the splines aren't long enough and thus won't allow the d/s to go far enough in to the trans.

Am I missing something that is causing me to be confused?

FE_rex

my guess is the output shaft extends further than the one Martin measured and is bottoming out on the inside of the yoke

edit - after re-reading Martins post I now share Fred's confusion

Or, maybe the one he HAS is short on the splines, and BTE now makes them with longer splines, which is what he needs.

That kinda makes more sense.

I know all about the $truggles myself.

Can't wait to see you going down the track! :thumb:

Martin - Does this mean I won't get to see your sexy ass riding up to the pits on the bicycle anymore, drinking beer and ready to party? 'Cause I'm gonna miss that if that's the case... :hmm: ...not sure I like the car "being ready" thing!!!

The splines on my BTE output shaft are 3.5 inches long. The splines in the yoke are 4.5 inches long. The yoke was bottoming out on the output shaft splines with a good inch still showing before the yoke hit the seal.
I had my Trans parts guy do some checking. The new BTE shaft has splines that are 4 inches long. I did some measurments and this would make it all work with the driveshaft maybe just a tad short. He called me back and checked a JW shaft and it has 4.25 inch spline length. This will be perfect.
He is assembling me a new JW output shaft assembly this weekend and sending it out.
I will have to replace the shaft which is some more work bit I see the light at the end of the tunnel now.
To make things better, I finished my fuel lines tonight. Then I decided to add some C 16 fuel and check for leaks. Everything looked ok and the light bulb went off in my head, whick doesn't happen enough anymore. LOL
I fired the car up for just a few seconds. It lit right off and sounded killer :smokin:
Not bad for the first time a have ever tried to time a crank trigger. I guess the eyeball technique does work sometimes.
