Every Monday after Fun Ford I remember that I should have taken this day off as well. My weekend was fun and I had a great time. Friday night we tried to make some progress in figuring out why my car will not run right on motor. We did some thinking and while deep in thought we thought it may be from a vac leak, so we tried everything....plugging various lines and running the car with no change. During this process we capped both the valve cover and the throttle body and discarded the vent hose, not even thinking that I didn't have a breather cap on the valve cover. We finally gave up and put everything back except this one vacuum line the way it was when it ran the 10.76 past last weekend at HRP. The true street cruise went fine, even though it was hot as hell outside, the temp got on the 210 mark a time or two and the trans temp was approaching 240 at some times as well but we made it back. a hour and a half or so pass and we finally get to make our passes. I line up for the first one and do a nice second gear burnout. Pull up to the line and stage, rip off a pretty nice pass and as I'm crossing the traps I hear the announcer on the radio in the car say they are going to have to check the track, I look in the rear view mirror and I see I have just laid down the biggest misquito fogger screen you have ever seen! I get on the return road, still have great oil pressure, the water temp and everything is fine, so I get the slip which was a 10.92 and go get back in line. The motor is running fine and I can't see any problems at all...I get out of the car and Ken comes up to me and says I didn't lay smoke till the 1/8th mile or so. I look up under the car and there is oil all over the subframes and headers! So I say oh well, maybe something in the little mirracle motor let go...so I pull it back to the pits. I pop the hood and look around and I can't see anything visable, then Troy notices the dipstick is real loose, and due to the vavle cover not being vented caused enough crankcase pressure to blow the dipstick out. Oh well, shit happens! So I clean up the car and get it ready for tomorrow relieved to know that the miracle motor lives on!

In T&T on Sunday morning I make a pass and the car launches great and runs a 10.88 with a 1.55 60' and no smoke this time! So I wait on the true street brackets to be called and run a 14.00 car in the first round. I dial in a 10.88 and I'm up against a 14 second car. I cut a .035 light and run him down by the 1/8th mile and get out of the nitrous before the 1000 foot mark and then blip the throttle at the end of the track. As I cross the traps I see the other guys win light go on and I have no clue what happened! No way I broke out right??? Wrong...10.83 at 118!!!! Holy smokes, it was on a pass! 1.54 60' with a 6.83@99.5 1/8th mile. I was a bit upset and realized this is why I'm not crazy about bracket racing! I'd much rather run all out all the time to see what the car will run!

I went ahead and bought back in to the brackets and got ready to make another pass, I dial in a 10.70 and end up running a 9.85 car that is deadly consistant. The car didn't respond well and only went a 10.83 this time ending my weekend.

But I made 4 runs at Ennis and they where all in the 10's so it wasn't a total loss. Congradulations to Chuck and Shane for winning this weekend. I had a blast and also really enjoyed helping Alex and Troy also!

Time to hunt some gremlins and get the car running well on motor now and see if I can get a bit more out of it.

My weekend was great! I have been working with Alex Mandy for a couple of months getting his car ironed out. Alex originally built his engine to compete in Street Renegade but with the numerous rule changes his combo is a little behind the times. He still wanted to compete, so I was there to help him out. We got to the track with some work to do on the car. The decision was made to add a progressive controller so that the car would launch effectively on a large shot of nitrous. Well, as it turns out the controller we had a bad terminal and wouldn't work. We hunted a new controller down, Brent and I borrowed Guff's truck and took a nice tour of Dallas. Roughly 3 hours later we were back at the track and installing the new contoller. Worked like a champ. In the first round of qualifying Friday evening everything seemed to be ok and Alex managed a 9.30 @ 145. The track was horrible, I think it would have been better if they would have smeared grease all over it. Anyway he made it down a bad track where some of the other competition couldn't. We were surprised to be #3 out of 7 cars Friday evening. Both of us really wanted to see an 8 second pass this weekend so we made some changes and went to the lanes Saturday for the second round of qualifying. We have been having some issues with the battery holding a charge and it bit us on the butt. In the lanes there was 16.5 volts. By the time he started the car, did the burnout and made it to the beams the voltage was down to 8. Not good. The transbrake wouldn't activate and the car rolled through the beams. Some of the others picked up and made better passes and we were now down to #5 qualifier. We were told that the #4 car had only ran .004 faster than us. With this knowledge we were fairly confident that we could bump him out of that spot. Being #5 we would have to run the #2 car which was a full second faster than us. If we could get to #4 we would run the #7 car and we knew we had him covered. So, we swapped in a spare battery(thanks to Outlaw98) made a few other changes and went to the lanes for round 3. When we get to the lanes we were informed that the #4 car DID NOT run a 9.30, he ran a 8.52. Well we were already in the lanes so we figured we'd make a pass and see the results of the changes that were made. Burnout, stage, get on the transbrake, wood it and the car creeps forward breaking the beams and redlighting AGAIN!! Back in the pits we find that the reverse band isn't holding when on the t-brake. We make an adjustment, but it just wasn't going to happen. The solution was to activate the t-brake, mash the foot brake to hold the car back and launch. This seemed easy enough. Sunday, we're called to the lanes for first round of eliminations. Alex was hungover and had only been awake a mere 30 minutes before we went to the lanes. Lesson learned!!! We get in the lanes, paired up with Manny Geno, #1 in points and the #2 qualifier and qualified a full second faster then us. Burnout, ease up to the beams, purge the nitrous and the purge solenoid sticks open. I motion for Alex to hurry and stage, but the starting line official backed us out. I was hacked. If the car had launched it would have quit purging, but oh well, luck was just not on our side.

A lot of the PoMoFo group helped us out, Brent, Ben, Fred, Darrell, and Guff. Sorry if I left anyone out! Also we received some help and hospitality from some of the WSM group, thanks guys, the shower was much needed and appreciated.

I had my share of up's and down's all weekend.

First off, the car was untested with the current combo and after blowing a u-joint, driveshaft, and tranny tailshaft the previous weekend. So my only time to TnT was the Friday of Fun Ford. First pass off the trailer I decided to just roll off of idle. I was blown away with my new best MPH in both the 1/8 (104 mph) and the 1/4 to the tune of 133! I made another pass with similar results (faster 1/8, but slower 1/4) and figure it's good to go for True Street. As usual the Fun Ford gremlin bit me and right when I came back from the cruise I heard my belt squealing. This turned out to be my tensioner as it had come loose and hence the belt wasn't even turning my alt or water pump. I made one pass anyway, hit the brakes to stay in the 11's and then pulled off as my coolant was over 254^! Again, 10 minutes later in the pits and everything was fixed.

Sunday was also bittersweet. I decided to run in the T/S brackets. So first thing in the morning I got in line for a first TnT pass. I decided to stall the motor up on the footbrake and roll out. At the end of the pass I was radio'ing Fred that the pass "felt really fast". All I could make out on the radio was Fred saying "Congratulations!". I couldn't believe the time slip when I got it. 10.18 @ 133! A new best in every way except the 60'! The potential of this combo is just down right amazing as I have yet to use the transbrake, and I'm still only running 13# of boost on a pump gas tune! First round of brackets I ran a 10.301 on a 10.30 dial in but I slept at the tree and was lucky to win as my competitor broke out. The next round, while in the staging lanes I lost ALL FORWARD gears on the trans. I still had park and reverse, but none of the forward gears worked. So I was pushed off the lanes and onto the trailer.

The rest of the weekend got a little twisted. Since I took Monday off Liz and I hit a state park on the way home to camp out somewhere nice before heading home. That night the RV sprung a water leak inside so we couldn't use any of the water in the tank and Sully came down with a pretty nasty bug and yacked his guts up all over his bed. Also, somewhere along the way Courtney ripped the screens off of the windows in the RV. Aren't kids wonderful!?

Good thing I've got a whole month to get things fixed before the Clash race at HRP!

PS - I've got my fast run on video (thanks to Fred) along with Chuck, the Warwas clan, Brent, and Shane... if anybody has a way to convert these so I can post them here I'd appreciate it.

Maybe one of these years I will compete in my own vehicle. Was good to meet back up with you guys, hope to see you again next year!

Ben,
Get a DVD Express by ADS Tech - not very expensive ~+/-100 and will let you go right from S or compsite video into the PC via USB 2.
