I'm looking to take next week off to take care of getting my 5.0 to the machine shop and back, then reassembled and reinstalled.
Only problem is this is the first time I've ever done it, and my only backup tranportation is my Roadstar 1600.
Once I get all the parts back from their various places - I'll pay for someone to come help me get that biotch reassembled and reinstalled.
Broken cranks are the suck....
Any takers?? I live in League City, and will sweat equity trade (or flat out pay) anyone if that's what they want 2-1 - basically I'm getting frustrated and want my coupe back on the road.

I'm truckless. Something that makes taking parts here and there extremely difficult for Fred and I! (blue91)
On a side note, and just a little advice, the machine shop took a week and a half to have my block ready, you may want to have it there before your week off... so you don't wait most of your week!

I'm going with a little local place that was recommended by another shop - When I called them they didn't sound busy at all and the guy said that if he was able to pick it that day by noon, it would have been done by the end of the day. Surprised the hell out of me.
"2 siezed bolts a cleaning, freeze plugs and cam bearings? Couple hours at the most"
!!!
As far as a truck, I'll RENT one.

If you know what you're doing - when I get the block back, you got a deal - I'll rent a car and come pick you up then help you get yours running.
I've still yet to hear of anyone else busting a crank at 20 mph on a bone stock motor taking off from a stop light in morning traffic...

yea, i havent heard of that happening to many people, so it kinda suprised me.... but when i talked to a couple of other people they said that "shit happens" and "it has happened to other people before".
as far as puttin your motor back together, as long as you know tha torque specs we should be good ta go. i havent ever built a motor, but ive torn em apart a bunch of times, and here in tha next day er so i should start semi-tearing one of my short blocks down and then puttin it all back together.... :)
ill let you know whats goin on as soon as i find anything out. :)

An FI 5.0 should be largely plug and play - the entire wiring harness more or less just unplugged off the top of the engine - as far as the torque specs, that shouldn't ben an issue to find out. My major concern is getting all the gaskets where they need to be(That gasket kit has more than I thought there were, and I've never done it - and will be the first one to tell everyone I don't trust myself to do it myself) and getting everything assembled in a manner which I won't need to do this again!
I just want to get it together correctly (do it once the right way... etc..)

I'll buy any damn research material necessary to get this thing going. Money is not going to be a resource that's lacking. I just want my damn car back on the road - Looks be damned - $80 steel braided brake line for the 5 lug conversion in the front can wait 2 weeks.

If it can break - I am the one who can break it.
I was driving home from work in rush hour traffic when the crank broke on my '89 GT. I wasn't going but 10 MPH before everything siezed up.
Gotta love the Ford Extended Service Plan :D

Nancy, that doesn't count though. You have to have OIL in it to play the game. LOL.

Good god things have gotten busy overnight!! It looks like I'll have the block to the machine shop this upcoming monday - no update on when I'll get it back. Once I get it back, I'm gonna be a damned dervish making arrangements to get it back where it should be!! I just bought a torque wrench last night, and ordered the new engine mounts (Alex in Houston would LOVE to explain what happened there...) - I'll pick them up tonight.
I'll be looking at next week sinetime - don't want to set any vacation arrangements until I get that block back. :)

Well, I ain't got the engine no mo. Jims Machine shop about a mile down the road from me has it - estimate is $130 and 3 days for water pump bolts, cleaning, freeze plugs, cam bearings, and honing.
What's a good price for ARP head bolts and Felpro head gaskets? A place down the road from me wants $45 for the head bolts, and $30 each for head gaskets - he says the standard felpro gaskets are about $25 a set, the hi-po gaskets are $30 each...

thats sounds about right to me man...... i think thats even tha standard price from tha dealership parts house.....

Are the hi performance gaskets worth it?

i honestly dont know....
i would think about tha thickness (if you can find out w/o buyin em) and tha bore on em.... and see how much that would change your comp. ratio. then think about if you really wanna mess with your com ratio.
presonally, i would just go with tha stockers. theyll werk good, and then if/when you decide to get new heads i would think about tha HiPo gaskets.

Just get the head gaskets from AutoZone. When they look the car up, the one they come back with will be a Felpro gasket with the part number ending in -PT2. I think the first numbers are something like 8545 or the like (I never can remember). These gaskets work FINE. I've ran them exclusively since I've owned my mustangs. You will pay $13-15 each.

Guess this should be the time that I mention I'm going to be adding boost at sometime in the future...

They still work fine. I have a friend who runs the drag radial class in the NMRA who still uses these gaskets. He's #2 in the points chase I believe.
You'll blow any headgasket, if the tune isn't correct.

Nice - I'll pick up the bolts tomorrow and the gaskets from AZ
