View Full Version : Fuel System - need opinions

Need some opinions on my planned setup for my car. Here is the plan:

255lph intank ----> Inline 255lph pump

After the inline, I plan to use some 1/2" fuel line that I already have. Then into a Y, to rails, then back to regulator, then return.

My question is this. Will the fuel pumps support the fuel line? I'm worried about the increased volume size vs enough fuel pressure to support what I need.

Think it'll work??

todd, considering how much fuel is bypassed (alot is bypassed) i think you are fine with the line size

all that may be overkill. What hp are you suppose to be making? What line pressure? FMU?

I have a few formulas that may help..........

I'm building a 306 turbo car... My original intentions were to run something like an aeromotive pump, but others have suggested this method of pumps since it'll be more street friendly and cost effective..

As far as hp, I'm hoping for 550-600. Stock lines are not an option seeing they are already out of the car and gone. As far as line pressue, I have no clue.. Haven't gotten into that much detail yet..

A basic 255 intank and 255 inline is NOT overkill. That is no where close to being a "race" setup. Aeromotive and Walbro pumps are used all the time with the line he's planning on using and no one calls that overkill when used on a car making over 450HP. Why would smaller pumps be considered overkill?

I think you'll be ok Todd. If you find you don't have the PSI you want, you can either raise the psi with the regulator or another option is to get the high pressure Walbro 255 intank pump.

I had planned on getting the high pressure intank. OK, I just wanted to make sure that the line was going to hamper me with my setup..

Thanks for the input..

If I understood the ABOVE setup.........he wanted to run 2 pumps both at 255 with .5" line. I thought was a little much. Maybe I'm wrong...

I will bust out the math book tomorrow afternoon and post their numbers with .5" line @ 40 psi making 600 hp.

I was going to say use the 255 in tank ONLY with stock 3/8 line.

Stock sized lines sign off around 450-500 hp with a boost car, regardless of the pump being used. Most people making 550-600 run 1/2" feed.

And yes, both pumps are 255. It's a common setup with the mustang... intank pump (like the stocker) with a pusher pump. Heck, Vortech supplies their Trex pusher pump with a lot of their blower kits.

aaauuuuhhh..........it must be a blower thing. I am soft on blower stuff.

With a N20 setup with a healthy motor, I suppose the needs become totally different.
