Last night was TnT (Wicked Wednesdays) at the local 1/4 mile track so I decided to check it out with the 94 Fobra after work (For those of you not familiar w/ the car, see www.hawaiian50.com/94stang ). So a buddy and I show up at 6:15 and there are 4, count em 4, cars inside. Sweet, lots of TnT tonight!

We pull into the pits and unload the typical crap from the trunk… slix, tools, light, etc. We get the slix mounted, some 112 added to the tank and I pull into the burnout area. The car has no line-lock so I try to brake stand it. For those that haven’t tried brake standing a car with power brakes and 14# of boost let me tell you how it works.. it doesn’t. There was 0 assist and I just pushed right out of the waterbox with a nice 1-wheel-peal. Yes, the car has trac-lok, but I guess the brakes won that battle.

So here I am looking at the tree with 1 hot slick, 3.08s and a stone stock rear suspension. I go easy off the like, bog it and then spin my way to a 12.4 @ 115 with a 1.9 60’ :racing: . Hey, not too shabby for a 1st pass ever. Obviously there is more in it judging from the MPH and 60’.

Next pass I skip the brake stand and just do a nice 2nd gear burnout up to the line. Tires are a bit better now so I bring up the revs, ½ way “dump” the clutch and let her rip. Now the slicks spin like mad and I’m left backpedaling like crazy. Once they grab it felt like the car was kicked in the ass by Jason Elam (sp) from the Denver Broncos. I shifted a little higher and was rewarded with a (12.7) @ 117. I was happy that the MPH went up but needed to work on my launches.

Fast forward a few passes and I managed a 12.2 @ 117 but could muster no better than a 1.9 60’. I guess they make gears and control arms for a reason.

And now for the carnage. Yes, the 94 lived to tell about it but there were some battle wounds:

* After the 2nd to the last run of the night I popped the hood to find that one of the tensioner bolts had backed out and used its self as a nice lathe to grind 1/3 of the tensioner pulley off. Nice. I should have seen this as an omen and stopped right there. Oh well, hindsight and all that.

* On the last run of the night she wheel-hopped so badly that it shook the x-pipe loose from the cat-back. I had to drive home 45 miles with 1 pipe wide open. I’m shocked I didn’t get pulled over.

* I noticed the a/f creeping up at higher RPMs into the 12.5 range! Glad I added that 112 I there. Need to figure out if it’s a pump, injector or MAF issue. I’m leaning towards pump since these 36s and 77 ProM came off a 10 sec car.

All in all I’m mostly pleased with the outing. I still have head gaskets, I have a new ET record and MPH record and I made it home w/o incident. Can’t ask for too much more than that!

LOL, that is EXACTLY why I was trying to push it off the line so hard... just to shut that mofo up :)

On a side note, he has 3x as much $$ into his 03 Cobra and runs low 11s. Pretty sure I'd be mid 11s w/ gears and controld arms. He might win the race by a hair, but it cost him a lot to do so.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone, really appreciate the kind words
