Nancy Reagan at 82? stands by all the pomp and circumstance for the past week. Manages to have enough stamina to be at a funeral ordeal lasting over 12 hours that is located on both sides of the country on the same day. Out of all that time in the public eye she breaks down only once and guess whats on the front page of CNN.

I was watching it with my wife and we were talking about how strong she was through it all. Then all you could hear was the cameras clicking like crazy every time she moved. Pitiful.... Friggin press.

You know they were just waiting for that moment. We checked CNN and within seconds of that moment being aired on TV it was on the front page of CNN's web site.
What a strong women to not only have gone through the events of the past week, but to also be watched like a hawk by all of the media 24/7 at the same time.

Personally, the timing of the picture doesn't bother me (and I also
understand why it might bother others).
Susan and I were glued to Fox's coverage during the last hour
(or longer). Being a sensitive little fart, I struggled to keep my
emotions in check.
That picture is definetly about the time I got a big lump in my
throat and teered up. Partly because it also reminded me of my
Mom at Dad's funeral. She too had held together - up until the
very last chance at saying good-bye to the man she had loved so
deeply for over 50 years.

Agreed.
There are some sad, sad people in this cruel world.
I supposed I'd have mixed emotions if one of them was shot in the chest for their cause.

Disrespectful mofo's! heh.
I bawled my eyes out watching her say goodbye to him. She was so strong and dignified the entire time. Same with me Rick, reminded me of my mom and how strong she was during my dad's funeral. I have much respect for women who can be so strong through such an ordeal. I don't believe I'd have the strength they do in such a time. Being a historical event, I can understand the press wanting to get pictures of it, but shit, give the woman a friggin break and let her grieve in peace!
Another thing that choked me up was watching George Sr, give his speech and he had to stop for a bit to recompose himself. =/
Such a sad event in US history. =/

It's sad that falling on the opposite side of the political spectrum would cause people to lose their decency in such a manner.

That's it Cris. I have my own issues with the Regan administration, and I don't consider myself to be a "fan" of it, but at the same time the man WAS our President, and therefore I will give him the respect that the position earns, ESPECIALLY at this time.

I don't think its falling on the other side of the political spectrum; I think its falling on the other side of the decency spectrum.
Regardless of political belief, respect is due to the members of the family who lost a loved one and our country which lost a former president. IMHO.

That was my point. Regardless of where your thoughts fall in regards to politics, being a decent human should NEVER be an issue. Being respectful towards a family and their time of mourning should never be about 'well, his policies pissed me off, so I am going to be an asshole about it now'.
So, basically, you just regurgitated what I stressed in a more wordy fashion. :p

You're always wordy Cris. =P

Actually, I was pointing out that the politics of the issue are irrelevant. People who don't know better, won't do better.
The press clicking away during the funeral was disrespectful also; their motivation was $$, but the behavior was just as disrespectful .
...more an expansion than a regurgitation.
(Did you want a word count on that? : ))

Only when it counts, Jenn! :p
browzin: Join some political forums, you will see that the politics are not irrelevant. Some wankers will flat out let you know if you're on 'this or that side', that they have no respect for you. Politics divide our nation.

Sure, there are wankers on 'this' and 'that' side who only 'respect' those who share their political opinions. After almost fifteen years of involvement in varying political groups and forums, I've concluded that that's a people, not a political, thing.
I may not be a fan of the former president, but respect is due the office and the mourning family. Those protestors and the photographers should be ashamed. Politics be damned.

We can agree to disagree :). In my opinion, people are driven by their philosophies. Politics being one of them. The people holding up those signs were more than likely not supporters of Reagan's philosophy so they personally attacked him and his family. They are too feeble minded to separate what is appropriate and what is not. Or it could be they are so engulfed in their political ideals, they don't give a shit if it's appropriate or not. Politics is relevant, IMO.

Or agree_and_disagree. I'm with you on the 'feeble-minded' part, just not the 'relevant', at least as an acceptable excuse for bad behavior, part.
I think people are driven by their philosophies, too. I just strongly believe that common decency, civility and respect should be the foundation upon which the rest, rests.
But if you want to get into a debate on the juxtaposition of morality and politics, we should probably start a new thread ; )

Are you nuts! I used to be addicted to politcal forums, I can't do it anymore! After a few posts, it's like driving in circles. I think I was doing okay until I joined The Black World Today and realized people suck, they're ignorant and seemingly choose to remain so.
Maybe one day over a few beers! :D
I think the last morality thread I was in on was about moral relativism... talk about a migraine. I'm almost tempted to create a thread, it's like crack!
Yes, we do agree
"common decency, civility and respect should be the foundation upon which the rest, rests."
Such a simple concept. Why is it so difficult to follow?

I peruse a few political threads myself, I purposely avoid them here however due to...well due to the fact that I'm friends with everybody here. I'll debate politics on sites where I don't know anybody "for real".

I'll resist the urge to launch into my civil rights/responsibilities and social deterioration diatribe...but I will take you up on the beers
Moral relativism..."Hello, my name is Jessica, and I'm a recovering political/ethical discussion addict"...(psst, wanna start a thread??)
Been there, done that, got the degrees and intellectual confusion to show for it...but did I mention I would take you up on the beers? :D
Take care.

It's good to know that confusion is not a rare state of mind. The more I read and learned (outside of static standards), the more I felt lost. So many paths, what's right? Why the hell is everyone arguing if they claim to want the same outcome???
I am a fan of the written word, so if you feel like pontificating, I would more than likely be interested in what you have to say. :)
Oh yes and beers, good, beers fun. Beer makes it all clear. We should do that soon ;)
