It was a hot summer’s day……so hot you could grill an all-beef patty on Shane’s head!

Because of the inclement weather, doubts arose that today would be the day of any new bests……I’ll let the doubters tout their new bests (“Congrats” guys!)

http://users3.ev1.net/~rickbook/pmofo/ccb070602.jpg

Time trials were less than ‘timely’ as the usual hundreds of drivers with thousands of hopes lined up to see if their pride-and-joy was gonna set a new track record. Hotlap traffic (and I do mean ‘HOT’) was heavier than Westheimer at 5:00 on Friday. The lines of cars were backed up from the starting line all the way back to the finish line.

I was lucky to get in three (horrible) time trials. Personal note: Maybe it’s time to put the Stealth in a retirement home – or at least stop treating the ol’ bitch so bad. The T-bird gave me all she had – good thing I don’t ask for much. ET has dropped off .7 sec since last year.

The PoMoFo Racers to make it out were (in no particular) order,

Bubba Bro (Matt)

----------------------------------

FIRST ROUND ACTION

Bubba: Lights up the tires to get an ‘el’ (sorry Bubba – remember “Bubba Bernstein Burn-Out!!!!”) “L”

Me: I had it pretty easy against an opponent’s .9 second reaction time (overheard later at the starting line, “We had to use our sun-dial to time the guy’s R/T!”). “W”

Fred: Look in the classified section soon for “WTB: Anti-roll kit” from Blue91. I was behind Fred and watched his launch (nice hard launch btw) only to find he rolled through the lights where “Big Red” was waiting. “L”

Shane: What can I say? For Shane’s own self-respect, needed to have a good night at the track. His previous performances hadn’t really shown what he can do. Tonight he’d finally get the red monkey off his ass. “W” http://users3.ev1.net/~rickbook/smilees/rubshanesbaldheadsmilee.gif.

Ben: ‘Can’t remember exactly what happened here. I think the other guy cheated (fill us in, Ben). “L”.

Nancy: The inherent quick, cat-like reaction of a female pouncing on it’s prey took her into the next round. First time racing and Nancy gets a “W” (visions of ‘bringing home a trophy tonight - instead of the usual street-corner Chronicle vendor’ passed through her mind – but then she snapped back into reality later on – read second round action).

Matt: Uh…what can I say, other than “Dayum, I wish I had a car like that!”. Matt (the new hired gun-slinger) has a beautiful coupe that was running a …..well, he may not want it posted so I won’t. Let’s just say he beat my T-bird’s time (that’ll give you some idea). I’m sure Matt cuts a .5XX light to go into the next round. “W”. (“yawn”).

Note: Matt was savvy enough to protest to the tower what appeared to be an “L” in this, the first round of the night. I could tell by the way he was marching back to his ride - eyes focused on the “X” on his windshield - that he’d won the protest and was going to wipe that scarlet letter off before it had the slightest chance of leaving any residue on the glass. Kudos to Matt!

After 1st round,
W’s 4
L’s 3

---------------------------

Second round: Of the W’s left -

Me: I think I have the guy beat at the end of the track so I lift – just enough to break out by .015 seconds. (SON-OF-A-WHORE! I HATE LOSING!) “L”

Shane: Continuing to redeem himself, peddles his way to a “W”.

Nancy: The fully-staged light comes on for Nancy, when suddenly, a shot rings out from a near-by book depository and averts her attention (under review: a second shot near the grassy knoll)!! I’m going to give her a lower-case ‘l’ here. It was her first time to race (okay, “legally”), so a pat on the lower back goes out to Nancy for growing some balls and joining the fun. ‘Hope to see you at ALL the events ‘gir frin’!

Matt: “W” (yawn) ‘nuff said.

___________

Third round
(this section to be edited as I was giving my version
of ‘instructions’ to Darlene for her first race (the Powder Puff)
so I wasn’t around to see all the action.

Shane: “W”

Matt: “W” (“yawn”)

---------------------

Powder Puff Round

Nancy doll’s up for the PP. She never looked so good getting the shaft – another lower-case ‘l’.

Out of respect to my man and long-time member Bubba, I ask his wife, Linda, to run my car in the Puff. She has ‘yet’ (emphasis on ‘yet’) decided to run through the traps at a blistering 70 mph.

I asked Darlene, Bubba’s friend, who was anxious and excited to make her first trip down the track. I thought she did great for a first-timer. Sadly, I didn’t account (enough) for the cooler weather. I subtracted .08 from the dial-in. She breaks out by .03. (My bad, Darlene!)

--------------------

Fourth round (same comments as above – future editing)

Shane: Gets an “L” (real men get upper-case letters) to the brown Road-Runner dood. If you know who I’m talking about, this guy is ALWAYS hanging around at the end of the brackets. The guy simply knows how to drive (sandbag or not)! He’s taken me out (I know! It’s inconceivable, but true!), Carl (WSM), and a few others who would rather ‘wipe-disk’ it from their memory.

Matt: After viewing Matt’s time slips first-hand, as disappointing as it was, an impending red-light was not out of the question. “If you never red-light, you ain’t trying!”). From all the PoMoFo’s, thanks for coming out and helping out with the points. You and your family are welcome back anytime!

With Shane’s and Matt’s good showings, PoMoFo Racing shouldn’t be hurt at all in the points race.

---------------

Summary

It was great to see the fellow members again and meet some cool new friends. While understanding there are higher priorities in life, we missed the ones who couldn’t make it.

Although we didn’t bring home a trophy, everyone had a good time. It’s not all about winning. The close ties of camaraderie take the “W” every time!

‘Hope to see every one back at the August CCB.

Stay Well and be Safe.

RICK!?!? I always look good "getting the shaft" :D

Rick, what a great review!! It was fun and I enjoyed meeting everyone - especially you, Rick. (Now I can finally put a face with my IRC cybering buddy).

I will definitely be at the next CCB.... Maybe I will do a little better next time!

I was VERY happy to see you out racing Nancy. I think a new "track" monster has been created now that the stage fright is gone. Congrats on your first ever win light. Damn, now that I think about it, I have to find something else to give you a hard time about..:D

Very nice summary pRick.

My added thoughts, in no particular order....

Sealy isn't level and my car rolls in the beams.

Bubba, thanks for bringing out YOURSELF and your car, Matt, the cheering section, the chef, etc etc etc... You've been a die-hard PoMoFoRacing CCB supporter since day 1 and it doesn't go unnoticed.

Matt, Im sure you've heard it tons, but again, very nice ride, and, hell, GREAT driving too. (had a .504 and a .506 back to back I believe).

Sealy isn't level and my car rolls in the beams.

Shane, THAT'S what I've been waiting to see! Great job.

Nancy, thanks for coming out, getting over your stage-fright, and having a great time with us. It's only gonna get better, with more practice and more go-fast goodies.

Sealy isn't level and my car rolls in the beams.

Ben, you bastard, you come out to CCB one time and already have my best 1/8th beat. :-P Great job going 3 rounds in consolation. You should definitely try to plan around it in the future months, was great having you out there.

pRick, what can I say.... I told you all my sweet nothings last night. :D You're a staple at the CCB, wouldn't be one without ya I dont think.

Sealy isn't level and my car rolls in the beams.

Rusty, great to finally meet you. Be great when you can finally see what that NICE car can do. Thanks for making the trip out there to support/hang out with us.

JB, I know you're reading, so THANKS FOR THE PICS DOOOOD.

Sealy isn't level and my car rolls in the beams. :D

See you guys (I hope) next month! August 3rd, 5pm, mark your calendars now.

Regards,

Rusman

Wow, besides being an arteest, as evidenced here (http://www.brian.grimal.com/gallery/album03/abk), Rick is quite the journaleest!

Seriously, that's a great review, Rick! I really hope to get my stuff done by next month's CCB. I really wanna race!

It was nice to see those of you I met last time again and meet those for the first time. *sniff* I love you guys!
/me eyes Rick's Bud Light

:D

Hey Fred, I noticed something yesterday: Sealy isn't level and your car rolls in the beams. ;)

I had a blast guys.

As for me getting a big fat L in the first round, we'll let's just say that between my last test and tune run and my first elimination round the temperature had dropped quite a bit outside. Due to the cooler air I broke out. I started the afternoon at 8.35 and was running 7.70's as the air cooled.

Superchargers... They aren't great for bracket racing but they sure are FUN!!!!

ok, so someone tell me about matt's car . i had my own ride to work on. damn, i drive it a couple of hundred miles and it burns more spark plug wires. { on a high note, the bitch rolls with only 8 lbs of boost} for sure this thing is going to run way better than my old sc'd 351.

Glad you guys had a great time! I would of loved to of seen that street bandit car in action, whoa baby. :)

Missed you guys, maybe next time!

Great pics Brian and JB!

I espeically like:

One of Fred's launches (http://www.brian.grimal.com/albums/album03/aax.sized.jpg) !

And, yes, the toned-down but impressivley improved launch of Shane's (http://www.brian.grimal.com/gallery/album03/aaz) ride.

Squeeze me, but I think I see a little air under the RIGHT side tire of Matt's launch (http://www.brian.grimal.com/albums/album03/abf.jpg) - (yawn.)

Only hope, prayer and a "Made in America" badge, kept me (or any of us) from being towed home (http://users3.ev1.net/~rickbook/pmofo/hondapower.jpg).

I saw those honda dudes in the pits. They added a bottle warmer and one them was putting a bottle of "Outlaw" octane boost (saki?) in the tank. I was thinking they may not have a good idea what bracket racing is about - consistency and more important - making it down the track.:p

Ben - when are you gonna make a pass down the track w/o lifting.:D

Fred - tighten those back brakes up and you won't roll.

hahahaha..the ricers are always fun to watch at the CCB's. Only think that pissed me off was watching on of them try to do a burn-out IN the water box. Mofo slung all kinds of water up on the track. You could tell even the track workers were erked as one of them was shaking his head while he mopped up the water. Even when you try not to pick on them, you see them to continue to do idiotic things that just beg to be picked on.

LMAO @ "saki" ("with a dash of secret soy-sauce")!

Ahum...I'm guessing Fred's already done this by now. I knew there had to be a reason (I'm just just not smfart nuff to figger it out). But at the next CCB, we'll never know if they secretly leveled the track - or if tightening the rear brakes prevents "Rolling Thunder" from waking Big Red!?? ;)

I was wondering what the hell they were putting in there. I was going to ask, but I think I would have felt sorry for them when everyone started lauging at them :).

Hey Now, I was having fun sandbagging for my first time!! Of course I wound up breaking out a few times because of it. But it was a blast...especially when I got to pedal somebody for my first time. :D

http://stang.v8mustang.com:81/pics/pedal.jpg

Thanks to Bubba's buddy for getting the pedaling picture. :)

Notice I've got my head turned to look out the passenger side window... I had to keep an eye on his bumper. :p
