View Full Version : Removing H pipe (cats)

I'm swapping my mis matched catted H pipe for an off road H. The ORH has the provisions for the air tube to plug in, but while removing the stock component I noticed a hole where the air tube mates to the ORH (I KNEW I kept hearing a small exhaust leak!). My question now is...being that there are no longer cats on the car (until I purchase my new exhaust system) do I even need to connect the air tube? Can I just plug it? Will plugging this tube result in any other problems? Is there a "resistor trick" like on LS1's instead of buying MIL eliminators?

i don't use an injection pipe. just plug it at the h pipe. i normally leave my smog pump open to the atmosphere. cut a dr pepper can and mold it around the stub and secure it with a hose clamp. don't know of a resistor trick for your year. you could be like me and run with them unplugged.

Ok...so you're saying to use a soda can to plug the H pipe end, and just let the smog pump tube blow open? Seems like that would sound like a goofy exhaust leak.

i run without the tube. i thing the diverter valve near the back of the head is closed to that tube when it is unplugged.
