run / no run question

What would cause this?
SEFI 302
Only runs if you hold the coil wire a few inches away from the lug
on the cap and let it arc across.
Plug it in and it won't run.

(edit: 'Spoke with Andy the other night - I thought he said that's what it was. Now that I think about it, he may have been referring to a different anomaly.)

Tried replacing the coil wire?
