Well, I'm starting to fill the area I decked in the garage attic (I didn't realize I had FIVE hoods!). Won't be long and I'll have to start on the work-bench - then Maverick front suspension so I can get it inside!
<center>
Step 1: Accidentally fall through attic in garage - may as well install a ladder
http://users3.ev1.net/~rickbook/pmofo/623.jpg
Step 2: Lay a butt-load of glass between the joist
http://users3.ev1.net/~rickbook/pmofo/619.jpg
Step 3:Don't forget the area behind you (this photo also illustrates the one-millionth-and-one use for duct tape - note placement along edge of access door to prevent splinters and on the water-heater vent pipe - oops!)
http://users3.ev1.net/~rickbook/pmofo/oppositestaircaseattic.jpg
Step 4: Begin re-assembling your car in the attic (and crap-stacking) before boards are screwed down (and 'no' the ponies aren't for sale)
http://users3.ev1.net/~rickbook/pmofo/carinattic.jpg
Step 5: Get off lazy ass and finish job!

So where is the step in which you consume lots of beer? That should probably be before the step in which you fall through the attic in the garage..:D

isnt the beer step right after the "get out of bed" step? ... or maybe its before ... =)

isnt the beer step right after the "get out of bed" step? ... or maybe its before ... =)
its kinda funny when you think about it....
you drink beer to get outta bed and face the world and all the bullshit that it has to offer.....
but then later that same day (every day) you find yourself drinkin beer to get INTO bed with that special someone that looks like theyve been hit in the face with a waffle iron.... :D
not that i would know from experiance.... thats more rick and shane's department..... :hmm: :D

I started working on the stationary workbench tonight.
I used Acad to layout the positioning of everything I wanted against the wall of the garage. I'd rather have gone 8' but I could only fit a 6' wide bench in twixed all the shhtuff.
Going to a 6' wide table (with 3" overhang), and the studs being located on 24" centers, leaves an unsupported area at the corners next to the wall (as there is no stud to attach directly to) of about 10". Not really a big issue as it deflects only slightly when hammered on. It'll stiffen up even more when the top goes on - 'just wasn't what I wanted.
To further make the bench more rigid, I used concrete anchors under the legs. Actually, this particular tasks took a long time. I went through two cheap 'masonry bits' and two bits specifically for concrete. I had to use a slinder pointed chisel to break some of the rocks in the path of the drill.
Once the anchor was in, I used a very course 'all thread for wood' to tie the bench legs down to the crete.
IMHO, it's VERY rigid with this set-up.
Just framed it today (Birthday tomorrow - no worky on benchy).

How about putting a couple of pieces from the leg to the top frame, on the sides and on the front. And/or boards from the legs to the wall, on the floor, and between each other. You might have that planned, but if not, just a thought to support those legs a little better

"Walkin' the Mile"
(lol Chris! I thought I was in somebody else's garage the next day)
Fred, I'm putting a lower shelf on the legs (which will be supported with 2 X 4's, however - the existing two 2X4's legs are anchored to the crete with 3/8" screws in center. I can't budge the bench in any direction more than 1/32" ! I realize it 'looks' unstable - snot, though.
just updating pics as I go along (thanks for the space :D)

My son's granpma, an ex-military/postal worker retiree, supplements his income by working part time at a mom and pop TV shop...
I've had the TV (on cable, of course!) for a couple of years now (thanks to some kind old lady who had it repaired and left it there), now I've added the accessory below it thanks to some nice elderly gentlemen who got frustrated because it wouldn't record...
Yea, I know it's no DVD, but still a nice adder to my home inside my home...
In a strange coincidence, the remote from the Zenith VCR I had in college (some xx years ago!) works not on the TV but the VCR; life is good :)
...now if I could find a cheap receiver somewhere that I could hook the VCR up to, I'd be rockin'!
BTW, the image is of Salma Hayeck and David Arquette in the Robert Rodriguez film Roadracers...quite good!

Troy, I see by your WTB ad that you're going to put in black carpet in your rear seat delete as well? he he. copy cat. (I'm the first person to EVER think of doing that.)
On another note:
I sat the Maverick down on all fours today for the first time since I wrestled it into the garage.
I was afraid the ass-end was going to be 6 feet in the air (kinda like the SN95's). I figured it'd have a helluva rake to it and only handle skinny 9" slicks (got the viusual?).
When I was putting the Caltracs on, I decided to try lowering the rear by 2".
Well, I was pleasantly surprised when the car sat down perfectly over the 28" X 12.5" E.T. Streets! No rake. If nothing else..... it 'looks' bad to the bone!
/me goes to sit in the Maverick and put that whoop-ass on John Force in the last race of the season for the 2004 title. :don helmet: :get into character look:

Couple things you may want to think about Rick.
1) ground wire on the ring around cap hole of the fuel cell (NHRA mandated)
2) Check valve in the overflow to keep gas from going out vent tube if you are upside down.
Should have had Fred over at my house last week when I was off. I know he was the one that did all that fine work.:p
Blue91
08-09-2003, 02:01 PM
haha Ken, funny you should mention that. Someone else mentioned the check valve (think it was Shaggy) and Rick said "I don't plan on BEING upside down", lol.
Thanks for those tips though... being that I've never installed or dealt with a fuel cell, those are things I didn't know. :-)
maveRick
08-09-2003, 08:57 PM
Yup, I knew about the check valve and am all in favor of having it. Fred said I didn't need it as he would run over to me and put his thumb over the vent hose if a roll-over should ever happen. As a back-up plan, I'll put the check valve in just in case. ;)
RE: Ground wire
You are correct, Sir. It's on the to-do list (again).
Thanks,
Rick

Gotta make room for the bigger radiator for the 347.
For those of you who know me, you know I use a sawz-all to trim my toe nails and cut out "2fer" coupons.
Basically, the 'box' frame is in the way of the larger radiator, so, I gotta make room between the grill and the cross - support. The existing radiator support HAS to go!
This shot is just after removing two brackets that were holding the exisiting radiator up (use your imagination. It looked like this

More advances (I think  ). 75% complete. Will finish day after tomorrow.
Can you guess what the hole is for (other than it being one helluva weak spot)?
Hint: I'm using my aftermarket, larger radiator I had on the '90 Vert (as well as the '90 SBF itself).
maveRick
08-12-2003, 01:48 AM
another angle
The bumper bracket retainer bolt had to be ground down to allow the radiator to fit correctly.
This angle is another hint for the gaping hole in the earlier pic.
(And no, Fred isn't helping me with the radiator mount - I wouldn't DARE blame him for this Otis Engineering! (Neighbors, please pass along to Otis that I mean that in a good way).
maveRick
08-12-2003, 01:56 AM
Pay no attention to the duct tape on the chrome bumper - it's there just to protect it while I'm working on the car.
Test-fitting the fiberglass hood showed the need to lower the bigger (taller and wider) radiator as there was interference with the radiator mounted in the stock location.
It's gonna be like pushing a 4' x 8' sheet of plywood down the track!!!
That's all for tonight, guys.
Gonna go take a shower and head to bed. Gotta be fresh and pumped to help Darrel move into his new home tomorrow.
(Yay, Darell! Anyone who isn't doing anything can join (I hope :??: ) Even if you are doing something, drop it and come join in the fun. The more the merrier (and quicker).

Is it for a battery cable or tranny cooler lines?
maveRick

The hole is a 'tunnel' to allow the fit of the lower radiator hose.
There really was NO OTHER WAY (it's a true PoMoFo approach -

Upating the update thread.
As mentioned in another post, Darrel came by and helped me do some wiring.
Darrel, of the items on the shopping list I got the RPM Activated Window Switch, HOBBS switch, and grommets to mount the MSD Timing Retard.
I got the Timing Retard and RPM Activated Window Switch (RPMAWS from now on, I'm tired of typing it all out) mounted today.
I need to go back and get the right size N.P.T. Adapter Bushing for the upper intake thingy.
I also attached the accelerator to the firewall, mounted the tranny cooler and terminated the lines (and secured 'em to the firewall and fender). Put 5 quarts of tranny fluid in (no leaks - yet).
(my note: I soldered the Lightning MAF pigtail and plugged it into MAF)
Basically, I'm ready to party again whenever you are. :thumb:
