This post is a spin off from the ad of the flexplate I had for sale.
I believe the more information we can gather on the C4's the better.
This is 'word of mouth' information as I found it difficult to find information on the internet. DYODD on this one.
The tranny on the left (in top picture) is the less-common "small bell". It was used, at least, on the '68 Mustang. It's a good find if firewall clearance is a problem. I identify it immediatley by the raised ribs that go almost ALL THE WAY down to the tranny body itself.
The other is the more common C4 (app??). The raised ribs do not go 'nearly' all the way down to the tranny body.
I found there were MANY variations of C4's throughout the last 30+ years (remember trucks also came with C4's). Some with 'shallow' pans, some with 'deep' pans, etc.,)
I also found my C4 is made of 3 different types (mid 70's tranny, late '60's bell, '8? deep oil pan). I'm still trying to figure out the shaft(s) differences.
Obviously, the idea here is to gather information and document it for us and others to learn from, so please add pics, links, articles, etc., as often as practical.
