This post is a spin off from the ad of the flexplate I had for sale.

I believe the more information we can gather on the C4's the better.

This is 'word of mouth' information as I found it difficult to find information on the internet. DYODD on this one.

The tranny on the left (in top picture) is the less-common "small bell". It was used, at least, on the '68 Mustang. It's a good find if firewall clearance is a problem. I identify it immediatley by the raised ribs that go almost ALL THE WAY down to the tranny body itself.

The other is the more common C4 (app??). The raised ribs do not go 'nearly' all the way down to the tranny body.

I found there were MANY variations of C4's throughout the last 30+ years (remember trucks also came with C4's). Some with 'shallow' pans, some with 'deep' pans, etc.,)

I also found my C4 is made of 3 different types (mid 70's tranny, late '60's bell, '8? deep oil pan). I'm still trying to figure out the shaft(s) differences.

Obviously, the idea here is to gather information and document it for us and others to learn from, so please add pics, links, articles, etc., as often as practical.

My $.02 in 67 they went from the 24 spline to the 28 spline in all vehicle lines except falcon (they got tthe lefyovers early 67 falcons got 24's and late 67's got 28's) if you have a 67 anything and are not sure the IF it is the origanial tranny and the build date is after 1-1-67 than it should be the 28 unless it is a falcon. The only way tell for sure is to take out the tranny because while all 24's were case mounted dipsticks not all 28's were. okay that being said here is the only heresay I have to pass along....The bellhousing are supposedly intervhangeable but looking at ricks picture the bolt holes don't look to be in the same places...I have never actually compared them to check.

I got to find out about the 67's the hard way since my falcon is a 67 :ashamed:

Uh, we really should stay on topic in the tech forum.

It's a Sanctum Sanctorium.

Say "Amen!" ("Amen"),
Say "Halleujah!" ("Halleujah!"),
Say Praise Jesus ("Praise Jesus")
Say it again! ("It again")
