example can be seen Saturday. However, I've never seen anyone be able to bypass the p/s without having to "reverse" the tensioner (make it pull UP on the belt (goes over it)).
That's how Darrell did his and is whom I got the knowledge from to do mine.

Cool! Good info!
Do you use the same belt length as they recommended (70.5")?
Why wouldn't a shorter belt work with the belt not having to 'reverse' the tensioner? Is there not a 70.0" (or so) available to try?
Aslo, wouldn't the tensioner over-stress the ribs of the belt after a period of hard driving (as it seems they would have a tendancy to fold under load)?
Thanks,

Oh, crap, I'm blanking out... the reason I have to reverse my tensioner is b/c I dont have a/c OR p/s If you route it without those, and dont reverse the tensioner, the belt will rub on top of the section of belt that runs over the WP pulley. The size belt I use is like 47" (you know what they say about guys with small belts). That would be diff if a 302 guy ran the same lack of accessories, b/c my motor is wider (thus the distance of the alternator in relation to the crank is further).

you can do it w/o messing with the tensioner. thats how i have the 5.0 in my falcon set up. i dont remember the belt lenth (i can find out when i get home if anyone is really interested). everything works fine and was just as the article said and the smog pump and p/s pump have long sence been thrown away.

You can do it without messing with the tensioner if you run a standard rotation water pump (stock mustang 5.0 pump is reverse rotation). This is if you run no a/c, p/s and smog, that is.
If you run a/c only or p/s only (or both), obviously you can use the tensioner in it's regular form.

well ... i had initially pulled off the smog, p/s, and ac ... but after 10-20 mins of making my brain hurt i figured id have to put the ac back on. =)

/me shakes head in confusion.
I ran a 70.5" belt like the Fordmuscle article says. It fit perfect. Then I went with ASP pullies and had to change to a 69", :D , belt I think.
Now I have reversed the tensioner and removed the smog, AC and power steering. I have the Gates pn if anyone is interested in that.
