I have to say the fox body for semi-late model stuff .... Not that all mags tell the truth but one of the import mags did an artical af a type r integra vs a Mustang and the type r lost everywhere including the skidpad and road course they were not happy to have that outcome and said so in their rag.

Wow, I'm surprised they were honest about it! I'd have to get that just for collectibility ;).
I was going to say a Fox also. You could probably pick one up for pretty cheap already with most of the work done to it. If you are looking for a new car, you're going to be stuck with imports at that price range.
There's also Brand X (GM) and the 3rd Gen Fbody. Those are about as popular as Foxes in auto-x'ing I think. Price wise they'd probably be about the same. I think the performance edge might go to the Fbody, but I'm definitely not an expert on auto-xing :).

I'm not an expert either...but from what I HEAR the later model Camaro's do very well in auto-x. A newer LS1 car is still going to be kinda price ($14k at least) but you can get LT1's for dirt cheap now.

Well, if you are looking for low budget, you can prolly get one of these for a lot less than an LS1, and from what I hear they are doing wonders with them in autocross....runs in the 15's stock in the 1/4 too. EASILY a good daily driver, I'm actually looking into dropping some money into mine, and the best part...it's NOT an Import!!
