Yeah, so my crap ass Mac H-pipe broke at the flange so now I'm driving around with half an open exhaust system. I don't care about it being loud, but it really sounds like crap :(. So, I took it to Meinike to get it fixed...it's just a simple re-weld, I'm sure. But they told me that they couldn't do it that day (it was 5pm Monday) even though I called two hours before and he said it'd be no problem as long as I was there at 5.

I then tried Firestone across the street. I knew it was a long shot, and it didn't pay off. 5:15 and they were way packed. So I took it to Midas today and left it at lunch so they would have plenty of time. They call me a couple hours later to tell me they can't work on it because it's the H-pipe that is broken and it violates emissions laws to touch it because it would 'alter' the emissions equipment. I told him that if he wanted to get technical, the headers and h-pipe on the care are illegal since they are not OEM equipment, and what is worse, him fixing my exhaust, or letting me go around town violating noise ordinances? He responded with the emissions thing again.

Blah! I'm going to try to get a friend to fix it tomorrow, otherwise it won't get done until next week since I'll be going out of town on Friday. Sometimes, things just never go right.

What part is broke? Can it be fixed with simple welding? If so, let me know, I'll be home all day tomorrow and might be able to lay a bead for ya.....

heres what i had ta do ta get my h-pipe fixed......
homeboy up at tha muffler shop said that he couldnt weld it up becouse it would violate tha emissions laws blah blah blah.....
so i got ta thinkin when i got home..... he can weld tha h-pipe, he just cant mount it to tha car. so i went back in tha next day with tha h-pipe and sure ass shit... he welded tha collector reducers on there.

if you cant get a friend to do it, i would take tha h-pipe in, and just tha h-pipe, and whatever you need to be welded to it.... if they ask any questions about what kinda car its gonna go on, tell em its fer a 69 mustang and they wont say a damn thing. :)

Is it an off-road H-pipe?

No, it's a cat pipe (meow).

I called Meineke today and told them what Midas said and he told me the guy was full of shit and he'd take care of it, as long as it wasn't too rusted and the bead would hold.

$45 later it was fixed, though he did have to wack both flanges and weld in a straight pipe since it broke so close to the flange. Oh well, I have a new H pipe in the garage just waiting for headers to come in.

My car is MUCH quieter now. No backfiring on shifts or 'gear braking' either ;).

Thanks for the offers and tips! I would have taken you up on your offer, Fred, had I not been able to get it fixed today :).
