I'm about to venture into my first real porting experience. I cleaned up a set of e7's once before, but this time I plan on taking care of that pushrod obstruction problem. Im just a little nervous about taking too much off and trashing the head. On the other hand, I want to do a good job of it. Is there any way to tell how much I can take off around the pushrod to straighten that port out? If anybody can give me a little more direction or send me a good web address that has directions I would appreciate it.

Is this really worth the effort or would it be better just to save the money for after market heads. What is the actual power gain that one might be able to see from porting these heads. Thanks

It depends on whether you have more money than time, Jason. :) Granted, if you're going to port them and spend a ton of valves and springs, you may as well invest in some used aftermarket heads.

IMO.

i just ground off the egr hump in the exhaust port and it woke it up quite a bit

Yeah the last set of heads i jacked with, i just ground the egr hump and smoothed the area around the valve guide. I can't tell you if it helped or not though because i really cheaped out on those heads and went from junkyard to car and it turns out the valves were bent. Rookie lesson learned i suppose. By the way, I have a set of slightly ported heads in need of a rebuild that i am more than willing to part with for a small fee
