View Full Version : twEECer - EECtuner or dyno and chip?

Now I'm looking for some sort of tuning aid and need info. Is there anyone here that knows the Tweecer or the eecTuner pretty well? I'm debating on going with one of those or just having someone burn me a chip on the dyno. Prices are about the same either way. I'd like to have a tuner of some sort for the infinite ability to change the tune myself. I'm just not all that familiar with the inner workings of the EEC and would like some help initially setting the thing up. Any and all info is appreciated.

what kind of info would you like?
I've got a TwEECer.
The TwEECer/EEC-Tuner solution is awesome IMO because you never have to pay somebody for a reburn. The problem is that you have to do some reading and learning. Nobody can teach you this stuff, you simply have to sit down and start reading...join a discussion group (there's one for the TwEECer and one for the EEC-Tuner on groups.yahoo.com). Both devices tune the exact same things, so don't fall into the trap that one can tune tables/functions/scalars that the other can't.
Here's some suggested reading:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EECTuner/files/FAQ.pdf
Ford Fuel Injection & Electronic Engine Control by Charles Probst(available on amazon.com)
As a side note, if you decision does come down to the TwEECer vs the EEC-Tuner here's my $.02.
The TwEECer blows away the EEC-Tuner in every area except availability. The real time datalogging is incredible. The EEC-Tuner doesn't do real time. You have to do a run and then download the datalog before turning the car off or else the run is lost. The TwEECer stores all datalogging, real time, to your laptop's hard drive. Plus, with the TwEECer, you can have 4 programs and use a switch to flip between them on the fly. With the EEC-Tuner, you can only store 1 program. Also, you can program the TwEECer on the fly (while the car is running). The EEC-Tuner requires you to cycle the key/car to update each program.

I agree, tuners are the way to go unless you a)don't like tinkering, b)won't ever change your combo and requiring a reburn, c)don't have much money.
The C option there is kinda a wash because the Tuners are about the same, except you will want a laptop. It's not necessary, but you will want one. Tack on another $300 or so for a laptop.

I don't think Glover is over here.

I guess that's where the inherent issue lies. I've looked over quite a few different sites on the various tuners and don't really get it all. I guess I'm just paranoid about frying something because I adjusted/changed the wrong value.

I've joined both and haven't really seen much that I could jump in and grasp. Most of the stuff I see on eec-tuners group is a specific issue and most of the tweecer ones seem to be when it will be available. Though I'm sure info has and will come that I can use once I have one of the devices in my possession.

Sounds like the way to go is the tweecer but the Catch 22 is there seem to be none available. I would much rather use the tweecer just because the guy who makes them is local.
I don't have any reservations with reading and studying, I just want someone with experience to help me with the initial set-up/learning curve.

I have no problems with tinkering, my combo changes everytime I drive the damn car! I'm far from rich, but I have no issue getting.

No need there. have a Panasonic with the fancy smancy touch screen and a new (but still crappy in my opinion) Compaq. The Panasonic is my preferred LT of choice, but the screen is only like 7". the Compaq has a much larger display but is pretty unreliable (has been in the service center as much as it's been in my home, no lie!).
Thanks for all the info, now maybe I can get my hands on a tweecer and maybe just maybe I'll find someone willing to help me out on the initial setting of it.

Get that Probst book I listed. It explains a lot of how the EEC works and that knowledge is applicable to any tuning tool you choose.

There's no magic light that will come on for you to go "Ahh I get it all!". It's a progressive learning environment. From those mailing lists, watching other ppl's specific issues, you pick up tidbits here and there. Over time you have a good base to draw from when you tune your own car.

Yup. Manufacturing is Glover's issue right now and it's only a matter of time before the kinks get smoothed out. He's got 75 units being produced now for people that have a deposit. They should be here this month. After that he's putting in an order to build 250 which should be enough to fill any remaining back orders as well as give him some inventory on hand.
Your "help" with initial setup/learning curve are those mailing lists. Start small, stay patient, do little changes at a time. The knowledge won't come all at once, but by reading and asking questions on those lists you find others who are in the same boat as you are that are willing to exchange information on what has and hasn't worked for them.
Shoot Alex, I think building a JYTT (or a JYT in your case) is waaay more intimidating that using some sort of EEC tuning device. :) If I can do it, anybody can!

Well actually I did both the JYTT and now the JYT :D
Mentioning that, the LEARNING CURVE was a mother in all that. I can crank out a pretty decent kit now, but this has been a long time coming! :)

Then you have an idea of what it'll take with an EEC-Tuner/TwEECer. It may seem overwhelming at first, but keep plunking at it and I'm sure you'll be pleased with the results. Just like with the JYTT mailing list, don't be afraid to ask questions on the EEC-Tuner/TwEECer mailing lists!

LOL, if/when ever I can get my hands on tweecer, I'll be sure to keep that in mind.
Oh and I'll make sure I ask you a bunch of them also! :D
