View Full Version : WTB: Fairmont wagon...

Yessirs (and ma'ams!), I'd like to find a Fairmont wagon. I do not care too much about driveline condition, but would like one cheap...
I want to build an auto car my wife can drive, and let her race it too. The Fox platform would still allow me to run True Street, so it makes the most sense (IMM).
If you see any floating around, or sitting, please keep me in mind...
Thanks!
Chris

auto as in 'automatic'...
I think the years are '78-82, or that era. I like the square front end like...

Yes, I had a '79 Baby Blue with White Landeau (sp?) Vinyl roofed Fairmont "Futura". It had the weakest 4-cyl I've ever witnessed in it. Little did I know years later, gear-heads would make 'em look like this:

Chris, For the unknowing (me) why a wagon?

Well, it 'should' be cheaper than a 2-door...
I like the longer wheelbase (stability)...
I have a weird thing for wagons (ultimate would be 455 powered '70 Vista Cruiser, IMHO)...
I want to be able to haul kids, cats, dogs, wives, knuckleheads, and parts...
I may have to live in it!

I know none of those listed are close, but I couldn't find anything closer, listed on the net.
Also, what about putting a "wanted" ad in the greensheet, the local alvin rag, and the chronicle? Might get someone who has had theirs sitting, broke down for years, wanting to finally pawn it off to ya. 'Tis worth a try at least.

I know where there is a 64 FAIRLANE wagon for $500 in Temple OK. Dwayne Cecil 580 342 6527.
Now that's styling.

Ow! Ow! OW!
You would have to throw that in there, LOL!
This whole concept got started thanks to Rick. I carted the carcass of THE CAR THAT WOULDN"T DIE! off, but kept the front suspension. Thinking to myself there has to be a good use for it, the wagon idea came back to the front of my head.
I (well, momma) can run a Fairmont in True Street, and if it gets hurt, it's not a '64 (that would hurt me). I have parts from the Mustang that would interchange, and could go back and forth between the two.
Currently I have in stock:
front end
complete 5.0 HO engine
C4
SFC material
8.8 in transit
Southsides
3 sets of 351 heads
X-pipe
DS loop
gauges
stereo
all waiting for a new home (and I think I finally got momma excited; haven't seen her like this since the honeymoon or when I went to Alaska :))...

re: excitement factor LOL! - You funny, Dood!
With all the 'stuff' you have, it sounds like it'll only be a matter of 'hours' after you get the wagon before it's running - based on how fast you work!
Continued luck,
Let me know if you need a hand ('hand' me that 1/2" wrench, 'hand' me that beer, etc)

NOOOO!!!! get the 2 headlight wagon!! the 4 eyed cars are lame lookin' IMHO... the 2 headlight has a more "old school" flavor.
the wheelbase is the same on all of the 'monts.
wagons aren't necessarily cheaper than 2drs... well... they often are, but they're often pretty wore out from kids climbing around in them and from hispanics running maid services and pool cleaning services out of them...
but if you can find a half-ass decent wagon DO IT!!! you'll never regret it, and eventually you'll steal it from momma and let her drive the mustang! LOL!

I heard rumor that Ford was talking to Fun Ford about yanking their endorsment if they would allow anything other than fox 4's and newer under the asumption that the "fox" in it's newest year is a 93 so that is 10 years old and they sell new cars so I wouldn't bank on being able to run in true street for to much longer....you might have to relegated to the bracket ranks like us classic Ford scum.

Wow, just what Fun Ford needs: a little more fun removed...
It's already a pain in the ass; if they do that, screw them! (Thanks for the heads up, Shag!)

Fun Ford will NEVER do that. They would lose WAY too much money, b/c it's still fact that other than brackets, fox bodies make up the majority of the cars raced at their events.
They changed the rules in the MOD MOTOR class to not allow fox bodies, due to pressure by Ford, to highlight their newer cars. Maybe this is what you are hearing or are referring to.
I have no worries that fox bodies wont be allowed in True Street anytime soon.

Nay get rid of the 64? What shape is it in?
BLue91. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if they dropped the Fox bodies from true street. You'd be more than welcome in the scum of the earth (or that's the way we are treated) bracket classes. Alexander is beholden to Ford and both Focus and Mustang team brands have never shown any love of older cars. When True street first came out (early-90's) it was only open the current Mustang chassis (fox). dammit, you made me get on my soapbox!

Well, MM&FF is the sponsor of the True Street class..... not Ford. Ford sponsors the entire FFW Event. So, imo, I'd think if Ford tried dictating to FFW that only 94+ be allowed to race in true street, then they would also try to dictate that for ALL heads up classes at the same time. I really dont see that happening, without Fun Ford losing a TON of money. Think about the fox body to 94+ ratio at FFW. In heads up classes. In True Street. True Street would have like 20 cars if fox's weren't allowed, lol.
No lo veo suceder

Stay on topic Sarge, or I'll kick/ban you, LOL!
No Ken, I will not get rid of my Sports Coupe. It will become soimething someday, LOL! I was thinking over the Fairlane wagon vs. a Fairmont wagon, and the 'mont would be a smaller psychological loss than the 'lane in the event of an accident. (I still plan on a 396/408/C6/9" for the Sports Coupe; may start in August?).
Thanks for keeping this thread going!
I showed momma the four-door Forrest; she said: "No way!"...I tried ;)

Well, last night, after I made my last post regarding the subject, I sent George Klass an email....
Hello George,
This is my first time sending you an email or talking with you, but I've ran the FFW class for a few years now, in the True Street event.
I've been hearing some "rumors" going around lately and figured I'd speak directly with the man with the plan to try to straighten some of it out.
The rumor is that Ford is gonna pressure FFW into not letting fox-body cars run in True Street anymore, in an effort to further promote their newer cars. Now I HOPE this is NOT true, seeing as how the majority of the cars that race in True Street ARE fox-bodied cars. If they weren't allowed, there would have been maybe 20 vehicles at the Houston True Street event. Also, I would think this would negatively affect the tech card/ticket sales.
If you know anything about this, or can say it is FALSE, please let me know, to ease my mind. My car is a street driven car, not legal/competitive (depending on class) for any of the heads up classes, and I dont like brackets all too much. True Street is a great class for us "middle of the road" racers. You guys do a good job in offering that class and people like myself appreciate that.
Any insight you can give into this would be extremely appreciated.
Onto my second less important question, which is more about "technicalities". On the front page of your "Class Rules" section of the site, the following line is typed, just above the bold "2002 Rule Updates" text:
NOTE: All vehicles (other than Top Truck class) must be 1979 to present, 2 door Ford pasenger cars. Engines must be Ford V8 powered. Nitrous Oxide, Turbochargers, and Superchargers are considered "power adders".
I would THINK that this should be 4 door, correct, as I have seen many 4door focii, older wagons, and fairmont's running in Fun Ford. If that's how it should be, then there's a heads up for your web development team to fix on the site.
Again, thanks for taking the time to read this, and hope your 4th of July is a good one.
Regards,
Fred Bingham
Houston, TX
I got a reply this morning....
Fred,
I've never heard any rumor regarding not permitting FOX cars in any class, with the exception of M/M. I think someone is smoking dope on that one.
Regarding the "2-door" reference (as well as the V-8), you are right. We'll fix that when we re-write for 2003.
LOL, there ya have it.

Thanx for the clarification Blue... As to what FE said the reason I no longer run at Fun Ford is becasue If I want to get treated like scum I would run NHRA nationals which I don't run either I want to have fun and the only way have seen in "real " competition is to run NMRA heads up...assuming you hafve a 6 sec door slammer NHRA Super Pro or better other than that going back to the feeling like scum I can go out on Weds. and Sats. and get treated with respect whether I am in a 13 sec car or an 8 sec car (not that I have owned an 8 sec car but did have a customer who was running Sumper Comp and Quick 32 man getting to 150 in the 1/4 is a blast I will be ther someday) I have seen him get treated like scum at national evets because he is only an 8 sec car seems like 7 seconds is the break point unless you go to just a local bracket event. Haveing known FE for awhile when my car is running he has seen me out at Baytown at least 3 out of 4 weds. a month (FE to refresh the memory my falcon is the 4-door green one)
