Not really a new idea, but I've got some stuff I wanna put on Ebay.
I'd rather there be a "PoMoFoBay". No new forum would be needed. Instead of "For Sale", title the post "For Auction" in the current Classified section. End it on a certain day and time - or, allow the seller to end it whenever they want (ie., the item has reached an agreeable amount).
I wouldn't know the reason(s) why it wouldn't be allowed - but if there is, I'm sure it's a good one.
What about it Fred, "PoMoFoBay"? (you not being held responsible in any way, blah, blah, blah.)
/me waits to be 1st to put something up on PoMoFoBay :D

I tried this once before on WSM and it didn't work. Alot of "backdooring" started....guys pm'ing me trying to work hidden deals....and it just turned ugly because I actually showed some ethics.

I kind of agree with Guff... on what would happen. It seems much more efficient to have a product, a price and an 'obo'.

The other thing that I have done on other message boards is to alert the members that you have posted a new auction on Ebay and let them have first dibs since it won't show in a search for nearly 24 hours. That way, if someone wants the item, you can end the auction before it gets bids. You still pay the listing fee, but no percentage of the sale price. Just an idea;)

I say put it to a vote... I agree with Guffy's statements and have seen it happen before and people get pissed. We here at this site are a friendly group with no drama. I'd love for it to remain this way as long as possible (we all know that as it grows, it wont stay this way).
I'm not the end all be all though. Let more peeps give their opinions, or add a poll to the thread (or restart thread with poll) to see what others think. I say go with majority rules, not just MY opinion.

I've seen guys 'back-door' these things also.
They'll post up a pic of what they have and post "What do you
think this is worth?", waits for the impending "I'll give you $xx.xx
for it" posts.
/me considers typing up verbage for new thread with poll
BTW, (and off-topic) how much you want for that flag gif in your sig? :smokin:

I agree with what everyone else is saying.
I recently had an incident where I was buying a NOS kit and Brian Warwas and I both wanted it. The guy had already put a price on it and then decided to try and bid it off. Brian and I came to an agreement and put the whole bidding thing to rest quickly.
IMO putting items up for bid is when you want to try and make as much money as possible. I have a hard time doing that to friends. I generally want to be more than fair to friends, even giving them a heck of a deal.
Just my $.00000000000000000002

How true, Kyle.
But when someone's in dire-straits (did someone mention my
name?) and need to get top dollar, you gotta do what you
gotta do.
We've had this discussion before. It was the consensus then that
everyone should try to get as much as they can for something.
Nothing personal.
I'd love to be able to give you all my shit - I simply can't afford it.
I feel guilty even having to post the stuff.
My friends, as much as I love you guys, aren't paying my
mortgage. Again, nothing personal.
I hope you can understand my viewpoint as well as I understand yours.
If I'm totally off-base here, someone please speak-up!

I'm a firm believer in you set a price and people will pay it. If it's too high they won't buy, if it's too low they get a deal. It's the seller's responsibility to set the price. It's the buyer's responsibility to get as low a price as possible. Sometimes the buyer runs across an uneducated seller and gets a deal. Sometimes a seller gets someone to pay a high price.
Enough rambling. Auctions ALWAYS help a seller not the buyer. Seeing how most people on this list know what their stuff is worth, I don't think the sellers need any help.

Believe me Rick, I know where you are coming from. I was out of work for 11 months. I did odd jobs, but they sure weren't what I was used to. There is nothing wrong with trying to get the most out of what is yours. I've had Janell's car up for sale for nearly 4 months. Nobody likes my price...but I'm not going to give it away.
BTW, I think I got a good deal on the headers. :D

I disagree with that. I've gotten some great deals on Ebay. If the buyer is smart -and more importantly patient- they can steal some stuff from auctions.
Maybe if someone would sit down and come up with a hard set of rules there might be a way to make this work.

I'm glad you said that, 'cause I really didn't know. I searched the
web to see what they were worth but found a wide range of
what people wanted for their used ones (of which I didn't find a
lot). Also, I really didn't know what shape theirs were in.
But, what you probably didn't know is, as a nicety, I threw
in the $0.99 gray primer paint job that's going to have your
neighbors calling the fire-department on you 2 minutes after you
crank that bad boy up! :)

I just read this thread and I'd like to make a few comments and voice my opinion on the subject:
I don't think we need an auction catagory on the site. Like others have said, it will only lead to a bidding war between friends and if someone was just looking for the most money that they can get for something ebay should be used for that. I don't mind people offering up stuff before posting it on ebay to give members first shot on it, and I don't really mind people posting a link to ebay for stuff they have listed on that site for sale.
I know other sites have tried auctions (WSM, DFW etc...) and they never got it going, I don't think we have the traffic these sites do so it would probably be a failure if we tried it and not worth the effort.
Just my $.02.
