Thought I would update everyone on where I stand with the rebuild. The block that I had gotten from Frank was a little too worn out in the cylinder bore. It was close to .050 at the top and like .047 at the bottom. My clearance should be .045 with my pistons, so Roger said that running in this block would eat the edit piston rings up. So I went ahead and disassembled the 332 block that I had gotten from Ken and made my cuts on the cylinder bores for the stroker crank, then took it over to Roger's Machine yesterday. I had him check everything while I was there and it all looked good. I am going to have to have this block line-honed because its not perfectly centered, he's also going to torque plate hone it, hot tank, install freeze plugs, cam bearings, etc... I also decided to go ahead and let him do the valve job on my heads and flat mill them .040 to get compression up near 11:1. He was also able to purchase all my rings, bearings, gaskets, etc... from his local supplier for as cheap as they would've been ordering through summit.
So after all is said and done, all have all my pieces back from the machine shop with all parts needed to re-assemble the motor for less than $700, thats including the head work. All I'll have to do is get some oil, assembly lube, ARP bolt lube, and thats about it.
He should have it back by Tuesday next week at the latest, but he's going to try to have it this week.
I plan to go ahead and tackle my rear-end this weekend and get the 31 spline setup in place along with poly bushing'd control arms.

Are you missing a zero in your clearances? Also, how could a loose piston hurt your bearings. A taper cylinder can put the hurt to a new set of rings in a hurry.

A Zero? I don't think so, I'm not a machinist, I'm just going off what Roger told me as he was measuring things.
My pistons are 4.040 pistons, so the bore has to be a little more than the pistons are wide right? So I thought he said that block measured 4.047 at the bottom and 4.050 at the top and that the bores were also a little out of round.
As far as a loose piston hurting the bearings, I mis-typed, I meant to say rings. Oops!
The block I got from you with that 332 is in better shape, the bores measured out something like 4.037 and were pretty well in shape. Problem is he can't bore it out, so he'll have to use the torque plate hone to take out enough material in the bores for my 4.040 pistons.

OOOH I thought you were expressing side clearance (ie piston to wall). 0.003 cylinder taper is borderline for rings.

Carl, ur machinest's name is Roger. Is this the same Roger that built Highlanders/Nicks 4V?
:hmm: just wondering......

I'm not sure of his last name, his shop is at his house up near 1960 and 45 in the neighborhood behind the Chase Bank on 1960.
