Couldn't be produced forever you know.
My first car was a 1968 VW Beetle. I spent two summers with my grandparents up in the hill country restoring it and making it my own. The first summer we got it running, rebuilt it with .010 over pistons/jugs making it a 1610cc engine LOL. We picked a color for the car and painted the engine up to match during its rebuild. She would be dark red metallic by the end of the next summer. We did all the body work, shaved the trim and filled the holes, shaved the turn signals from the front fenders and mounted them in a custom painted bumper. Re-upholstered all the interior with smoke grey vinyl and burgundy velour seating and panels, installed a nice stereo, some 8 spoke empi-style wheels, and did a few other things. I drove it for a year from 16-17 years old, then my junior year inherited my sisters 88 Beretta GT, then my senior year inherited my mustang.
I guess you could say the volkswagon is what originally got me into cars, then the beretta into speed, then the mustang into racing LOL.

Interesting. I never knew they produced a two seater convertible.

I also started off driving my 72 Super Beetle. That thing went through a lot of crap. It took jumps like only a stunt car could, it went mudding with the best of jeeps and it for some reason was the scariest thing I have ever ridden in at 100 mph. Then my brother decided to take her through a culvert at 70 mph. Squished bug.

Yeah, I kind of wish I could find me a cheap super beetle somewhere to make a Baja Buggy out of. I had helped my grandfather build one when I was like 12. We put all fiberglass fenders on it and ran an open motor area with just a fiberglass cover on top. It was more street driven though than baja'd. It'd be fun to build one and put some AT tires on it for some fun, but there's not really many places around here close to play offroad.
