Out of curiousity (based on last nights IRC discussion), I called Summit this morning about the CAT harmonic dampers/balancers. Seems Summit has done the right thing and limited their liability by removing the product line from their inventory: too many quality problems.

The line lasted what, three months?

Guess it's time to step up to a Romac...

[Not sure if anybody was interested, but our suspicions have been confirmed through Summits deletion...]

Ahhh...Interesting

I had noticed some talk recently on the Corral about poor quality with CAT flexplates. My one experience with CAT was with a main stud girdle that was supoosed to fit a 302. Ended up having to machine all the main caps because the washers/spacers weren't tall enough.

The machine shop I use here bought a bunch of CAT cranks, rods, balancers, flexplates, etc a while back. A large portion of the order was returned due to poor quality. Although, in talking with them, their sentiment was, "It's a good value if you get parts made on a good day. If not...." :(

Thanks for the FYI Chris

Actually I have had really good luck with them for street level motors...don't use there rods without changing to arp bolts though. Race motors are a different story though.

Are these the people who make the cheap harmonic balancers (and other parts) that Bubbas car parts sells at FFW?
