I just got back from the auto parts store with what I hope to be all the minor things I needed to put the motor back together. I went ahead and got the oil, filter, ALL new gaskets, rags, carb cleaner, and the such. Walk out total from the counter was $101.34!!!!
Just when the piggy bank starts to develpe to the positive side (usually filled with IOU's  ), I find a way to deplete it once again.
*sigh*
/me prepares for the fun of reassembling a stock motor and turns daily rant mode "off".

hence I don't drive cars w/ timing belts!
well... actually my Pinto has one, but it's a non-interferance engine, and changing the belt is only a couple hour job...
I did have to change the water pump on it, but they're EASY on those engines... about $20 and about as many minutes later and I was back in business.

8 quarts!? You bunch of sissies. Try 15 quarts. That'll put some hair on your chest. A DIY oil change costs me $40 and that is not even synthetic. A DIY synthetic change would cost me $100. I don't think so, not when I average 3000 miles per month.

Oh yea? I stopped by Ford today to check on some parts for the SHO...
LH valve (cam cover) gasket: $72
RH " " " " : $34
Spark plug well oil seal : $24 EACH (times 6; it's a freakin' o-ring!)
Spark plug wires (hold on!) : $302
I'm trying to fix a very small oil leak; I think it'll leak and smoke for $500...
[i]Sheesh, I can rebuild a small block Ford for that, with new parts and machine work...[i]

I speak from experience here... pay someone to do it! LOL! working on one of those cars is like trying to jack off with your left foot.

Since the motor sits sideways, compared to what I'm used to, dont you have to go through the wheel well?
*doh* somebody left themselves logged in.. <---- Saleen91

I think they have to pull that side of the motor out a bit to get a shot at the belt. Pretty lame...

Well I just did a timing belt and water pump on my neighbors 92 Civic yesterday. Basically you remove the driver's side front tire, jack up the engine slightly, remove the driver's side motor mount, remove the spark plug wires, remove the valve cover, remove the timing cover (8 bolts I think) and pull out your shredded timing belt. For the Water Pump you also have to remove the alternator bracket (no biggie) R&R the pump and then install the new timing belt, slap it all back together and you are good to go.
But if things go anything like they did for me, you realize that the guy got the wrong parts because he told the Autozone guy the wrong engine, and that you are going to need new helicoils for the motor mount. And then you realize why it is good to maintain a vehicle instead of wait until it breaks. 282,000 miles and he had never changed the timing belt!!!! Same with the clutch that we replaced on it about 3 weeks ago.
