I ran across this pretty thorough article on Dyno numbers. The most notable statement is "Chassis dynos are great tuning aids but...."

I wish I had time to respond to this guy's article. There are several contradictions on the write-up. Maybe Otis can point them out. I'll post after I finish my Wed ISO audit

I DID notice the links he referred to had different numbers (i.e. % loss due from flywheel to tires) but a lot of the stuff I firmly believe.

I watched first hand how a guy toyed with the 'calibration' of the dyno software between runs (after they'd sold the guy a "performace package"). It was total B.S.

Also, I would think that unless ALL the variables were the same on all runs (different days/time of day even), the numbers are not 'true'.

Bottom line: Dynos are more suited (not perfectly) for tuning rather than providing legit h.p./torque numbers.

It's all relative. (you can quote me on that ;) ).
