Progress to date on the ’70 Maverick and ’90 Mustang Vert:
As of today (June 05), the 347 and AOD are out of the Mustang. The engine is on a $39 Harbor Freight engine stand. I’ve taken the pan off the tranny and it looks GREAT! I don’t intend on dropping the pan on the engine (maybe I should though). Everything was running great when “it” happened.
The Vert is stripped of everything except the front suspension, wind-shield and steering column. (I will be taking out the air-bag for sale – those things aren’t cheap).
I’m going to have to decide what to do with the shell (soon)!. Not much there to salvage (remove SFC welded to drive-shaft safety loop, front suspension (lowered 1-3/4”), brake booster, other?). It’s got to go within one week though. I’ve got it covered up in the drive-way right along side the Maverick. [/me looks out the window to see if home-owners association (old-ladies-with-nothing-better-to-do-brigade) is spying on me].
Next is the attic above the garage: I’ll be decking the attic and adding the H/D wide-step ladder/door. Then, I can store all the Mustang Vert Specific parts for sale later on.
In the mean-time, I’ll finish mocking up a 351 block w/AOD in the Maverick (90% complete). I still have to fab a tranny cross-member and shorten the (Al) drive-shaft.
Oh yeah, “de-wiring” the excess wires/connectors on the EEC-IV for swap into Mav also.
Along with doing the mods above, I’ll be building some semblance of a work bench as I go.
Then, I’ll be able to pull the Maverick in-doors to prep for painting.
After that – the engine and tranny go in and to the track!
Whew! I gotsta get my butt off here and back to work! (okay, ‘hobby’)
Let us know the status YOUR projects (mods, installs, etc.).
(check out the ‘tan’ lines on my normally sandal-shod feet in this pic – it’s 10% tan and 90% grease and grime! LMAO and HOSE ME DOWN!)

Rick,
If you have the title to the car, and drop the tank and take the tires, I can sell if for scrap at our local dealer. We should be able to get it on my trailer w/o too much effort, now that I have a winch. Let's talk about that at CCB...Glad your making progress; kind of motivates the rest of us slackers...
Nay!
Oh yea: News Flash! MY car is in the garage now! Up in the air, fixing to get a clucth/tranny swap...

Rick....have sawzall...will travel! We can also use my trailer to haul it off and I know a plae that will take it. First you need to strip that thing completely though and I mean completely...too much small stuff there that might be worth something to someone...you'd be suprised!

'95 GTS
Just finished the Edelbrock upper and lower intake, and MAC CAI install, also threw in new plugs, wires, cap, rotor etc.

New shocks & axle dampers going in the rear on Saturday, 3:73's go in next weekend hopefully.
'89 Bronco
new rear end, main bearings replaced, tuned up...still runs like a large pile of feces when it actually runs, is now blowing oil from a yet undiscovered location. Since it was purchased with money from a consolidation loan, I technically own a $12,000 big a$$ paperweight. The body is the only good thing on it, was recently painted, and I took care of that in a fit of frustaration with it after I had to just sit and take a street sweeping ticket cuz I couldn't get it started to move it.

Who cares, the g/f drives it, but it does have a POMOFO decal in the back window!!!

Looks like I'm not the only one with several projects going on.
The Convertible has been resorted to daily driver status right now while the truck is down. I found and fixed a external nitrous leak (not leaking into the manifold, thank god) and I should have it fixed and making some more runs on it at HRP in the coming weeks. I just want an 11 second time slip out of the car and then I'll be happy.
My 92 Ford F150 now has a new 351 under the hood to replace the worn out 302 that blew up on me a few weeks ago. It should be started and at the exhaust shop by Friday.
The coupe has all the interior stripped out of it and the engine bay and inside of the trunk are painted with one coat of paint. I still need to finish running the wires in the fenders and painting the engine bay with a couple more coats of paint. I should have the torque boxes welded up and the rear end back in the car by the end of the month so that I can finally get it off the jack stands! The front suspension is finished and I should be able to make decent headway on it to get it ready for the drivetrain in the coming weeks. My goal is to have it ready for FFW Ennis but there is a lot of work to do between now and then. But I think I can make it.
I also need to spend a little time and see what exactly is wrong with the 454 that is in the CJ7.

Projects??
All I have going on is pulling the TKO and reinstalling the T5.
I think the only on-going project I have is the chore of getting out of bed in the mornings..LOL. Although its not because I am lazy. Its mainly cause it takes me 5 minutes of stretching to loosen my back before I can get on my feet.

hrmmm....... lets see,
'77 chevy nova (6cyl.) :
i picked up tha 350/350 combo fer $100 bucks from some 'tard, and installed it. then blew up tha tranny, so i replaced it fer free (i ferget how that happened?). gutted tha interior, and most, if not all of the "not so needed" wiring is gone. installed a new timing set. did a valve adjustment, and installed the headers. installed a new oil pan gasket (was not fun at all, thanks fer tha help james) and tranny mount (again, thanks james). all that i have ta do this week before CCB is get tha h-pipe mounted and do some minor electrical work.
after CCB im lookin at swaping my puney 7.5" rear end with one out of a camaro (8.5", also gotten for free). then comes the gears (3.55, with a mini-spool), tha holley systeMAX II kit (heads, intake, cam, etc....), carb (holley 650 double pumper, maybe a 700?), subframe connectors, 8 pt. roll bar, slappers, and 100shot of nos.
and after that is all said and done, i will be looking at building either a 377 er a 383 stroker, or hell, maybe ill even go big block, wont know till i get there.:)

Progress report huh?
Well, after banging my head on the desk with J&E, Ross, Houston Performance, a couple of engine builders and machine shops (both in state and out of state) I believe we've finally got a piston design that I can live with. However, I have to swap out my rods and go with a different length than what I had originally intended.
So the order has been finally, for real this time I mean it, turned in! Now I'm just waiting for the production run which I've been told is 3-4 weeks for a complete turn-around.
Brent - Save those exhaust tips for me! Next time we are going to be in the same place at the same time, bring them! :)
Rick - Poor poor vert.. :(

Progress
64 Fairlane - Decided not to cut the pistons to lower comp ratio and am just getting the big chambered smog heads. Should have motor together in a few months. Just putting together so I don't lose pieces of my $500 502 short block.
65 Mustang - Put on front skinnys auto drags I bought at swap meet with my brand new $25 swap meet tires. Last time I raced I cut a 0.569 followed by a 0.560. Need one more psi in the tire.
66 Fairlane - no progress
67 Wagon - no progress
69 Fairlane - gave shop down payment for start of big bertha motor. Plan to put extra block in car with motor plates to be sure headers fit. ETA Sept Oct but probably August.

I just came in from the garage. I finished assembling the big block for the 77 pick-up. Planning on installing it this weekend.
No progress on the 72 Super Beetle, but lots of talk about how driver friendly it needs to be. It's the wifes baby.
The 94GT is coming right along. I have the bottom end of the motor buttoned up. Need a set of valve covers because stockers won't work. I had full intentions of installing the motor and tranny in the car last week, but due to parts availabilty issues, it's still on the stand. It WILL go in next week. Still have a boatload of suspension work to do, along with wiring, plumbing and windows.

Seems like everyone is moving right along! LOL
My 95 GTS: After finally finishing the Pro-Star installation fiasco, the 95 has gone untouched. I have some odds and ends for the new motor, but with funds the way they are, there is no ETA on it. Depending on how much side work I get this summer, I might be ready by Ennis.... Hell, I'm 1000 miles overdue for an oil change. Sad part is I've had new oil/filter in the trunk for most of that excess 1000 miles... :)
The infamous 347 project: Not my motor, but has definitely taken up enough of my time to be referred to (for now at least) as "my" project..LOL We lack a clutch, a starter, and the standard odds and ends you need when dropping in a new motor (fluids, belt, etc) She's finally done! :) I hope to have the motor/tranny in the car by mid next week. Clutch was supposedly ordered from SPEC today!
The 351C car: Again...not my car, but I'm the hired wrench so-to-speak. Starts off as a Chevy guy who buys a running 88 LX with a 351C in it. His buddy adjusts the valves and next thing they know, they have an "L"-shaped pushrod...whoops. LOL So, they pull the intake to fish the pushrod out of the valley. They throw it all together and she won't start. That's when the guy towed it over here. Turns out they had the dist in off a tooth and the firing order wrong. Still had a miss, he orders new plug wires for it and we go to put them on tonight: Summit's tech dept screwed the pooch once again and they are the wrong wires... :(
Other cars: Looks like I have a long block swap on a 94 GT, two T5 rebuilds and two clutch jobs coming up.....maybe I will race at Ennis after all! :)

the 88 notch runs. i drove it to katy about three weeks ago. i need to replace a couple of the couplers for the i/c pipes. they are short. then install the boost adjuster. for sure a tune will be comming as well. oh and a clutch adjustment.
as soon as we finish trevors car, i will start on my "other motor" kinda like bens "other motor" hmmmm , 20 psi t 72 on a 357, me thinks it would make crazy power.
the t bird is doing well . just needs nos. anyone have some?

Well so far (in preparation for the True Street class at FFW) New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, clutch, shifter, header fasteners, K&N, fuel filter, coil, rear shocks and springs. working on: solid motor mounts, front struts, rack, front springs, MSD 6AL, new headlight kit, speedo cable, alignment, and new back tires. Well I got the motor out and the pan off. Pulled a 2 main caps and the bearings look like I just put them in there. I'm going to paint the block and the engine bay while I have it out. Igot a new pump and shaft and will put it all back together tomorrow afternoon. If I pull an all nighter, I should have it back together come Saturday. Yeah, pulling the thing is no sweat. Stabbing the thing back in is the beach! Also with the way the headers and cross over pipe are made, I can't attach them until the motor is in the car.
Like I said, it's really no big deal. I just hate putting the thing back in. I'm pretty sure I should be able to get some people from around the area to lend a hand whilest dropping it back in.
I've put it back in by my lonesome. Was a lot of back and forth though. Crawl under the car, get back up, crawl under the car, back up again............and so on like 20 times! But I got it in there in less then an hour.

Dang MM, you ain't fooling around! Hope all goes well!
Me? Well, I got the clutch swapped, along w/Shane's 3550, and took it for a spin around the block. I was hoping to find him before I mentioned anything, but let's just say I need to reinstall my 3550 tonight and tomorrow (before/during/after helping Kyle install long studs...).
Other projects:
Sublet ('72 Suburban): the rust is taking over; little to no hope of recovery. I plan to dismantle this jewel within the next month and try and recoup some of my money (I'm going to lose more on this one ride than all of my previous' combined). I hate to see her go. but alas. 468/700R4 will be available; misc truck parts headed to OK...
SHO ('93): redid brakes last week, now the freakin' radio shot craps. Need to sell it ASAP...
'64 Fairlane: Destined for the garage within a month, I hope. Need to get it inside before it winds up like the Sublet...
F250: needs a chip and an oil change, in that order...
'66 El Camino (my road): uh, destitute in Oklahoma. Need to retrieve it before 'Pops' sell it for scrap metal. By far the funnest vehicle I've owned, and it needs/deserves a frame-off (not a resto, a 'correction'...).
That's about it for my plate...
Nay!

well... I'm just about at that point where I hate all things automotive...
actually... I'm about at that point where I hate all things... period! I'm in a funk right now and nothing seems to be going right... vegging in front of the TV only serves to piss me off more... I can't go drive around because people can't drive and then piss me off, and I don't have a fast car to go abuse... I can't afford beer, but even when I was flexing the master card, the beer wasn't really satiating me...
no, lately the only time I'm not at odds with the universe is when I sleep... so instead of my usual 6-7hrs a night, I've been getting 6-7 hrs a night, and then taking a 3-5hr nap as soon as something pisses me off (generally ~noonish) hell, yesterday I slept from 1-5, got up started working, got pissed off, and went back to sleep till 8:30...
got a damn headache from too much sleep... still got to sleep at ~1:30AM and slept through to 8! :D
today my flanges for my turbo setups FINALLY arrived... looks like they had the CNC programmed for 3/8" plate and didn't slow it down enough for 1/2" plate... luckily I only got one pair of head flanges... I really wanted to have the 1/2" solid head flanges, but I can't wait any longer, so I'm gonna go ahead and just flip the headers... I'm still looking for a good hookup on some AWJ cutting (these were plasma cut) (no nap today BTW! LOL!)
I bought a vise last Friday and used it to break down 6 T3 turbos... only broke two bolts! oh, and the vise... cheap Chinese POS!!!
tomorrow I hope to have the first pair of turbos hung, but who knows... something might piss me off and I'll sleep through till next week! :D
I'm supposed to go watch the Tyson/Lewis fight Saturday (for free I might add!), but as of now I have no desire to go... I'm at the point where socializing without the aid of alcohol just isn't happening, and I don't want to DUI, etc.
I haven't touched NoDough in weeks... I got the intercooler mounted and the narrow Griffin radiator mounts fabbed... a couple days ago I lapped the valves on the head. I was planning on assembling the head, but I need to collapse the lifters to check valvetrain geometry (reground factory cam) and I still have no vise...
I have NO money... I finally broke down and opened a checking account with a $3k check from my credit card (offered a low fixed percentage that's "lifetime") but, it's going to be till next week till the funds are available, etc. etc.
so without any cash, my hands have been pretty tied...
fuck it, I'm going to sleep :(

Well, my intake swap is more/less complete. The victor 5.0 is now in place. Things that had to change to make it work:
Had to delete the EGR sensor, basically made a block off plate and bolted in place of the EGR, but the spacer is still in place.
Had to disconnect the cruise control cable from the throttle cable (no clearance for it)
No PCV valve in back of intake, so I bought a screw in type and put it in the passenger side valve cover, then ran the line to the intake (just finished that last night and haven't started the car with it)
Also replaced a leaking header gasket. Damn I really hate these cheap-o MAC shorties. Bolts back out, gasket leaks, replace gasket, #1 tube is a biatch every time to get the bolts in place. I really need to find some headers with a one piece flange. I'll eventually get there with a set of long tubes.
I did drive the car with the intake on before I put the PCV setup on. Didn't feel a whole lot of difference, except it did lose some low end. When I got back, I noticed that the dipstick was pushed out a bit and a some oil was sprayed on the wires, so hopefully the PCV will resolve that problem. Or I'll end up buying a screw in type open breather from Ford for the oil filler tube.
I plan to make CCB this weekend (if my tires will hold up a little longer, they've already stretched beyond my belief) no steel showing yet.
I guess the other project would be my house. Got to put in a ceiling fan and fix the backyard fence so my dogs can't get out. That'll be next week though.

Very nice, VERY nice indeed! I assume you're the one I met at Joe's whilst I hacked up Trevor's car; I apologize for not making the connection, but rest assured after seeing your 'creation', I will not do that again!
Did you change/repaint the hood too? I noticed on 'hood up' you had the stock blacked-out hood, and the lower was all red; did the fire damage the hood as well?
Very clean and very nice!

definately a tough decision... no super super rush to make a decision, but it's been driving me crazy!

Update to my update: 06/09/02
Well, thanks to Neighbors and his PoMoFo spirit, the Mustang chassis (what's left of it) has 'left the building'.
Now it's time to get started on the decking the attick so's I can store some Vert specific parts for the fooz on ebay to give me 10 times the part's worth :D (I won't be ebaying the heavier stuff (hood, fenders, drivers door, bumpers, other). I'll take inventory and put it in the classified sections later on.
After that, the 'erection' (pun intended) of a nice workbench to surround the Maverick for the 347 install.
Home Depot here I come!

Soon as I get somebody with a working digicam to visit, you can see it.

Continuing with my plan of attack on the 347 / Maverick install:
<list>
* Thanks to Chris Neighbors for taking the vert corpse off my hands (may it rest in peace).
* The next step (in my 12 step program) was to install an attic access ladder to store parts (fenders, hoods, tires, etc bulky items). Did that Sunday. (Aluminum (10’) ladder from Lowe’s ($140).
* I will be installing the ‘pink of panther’ (insulation) next.
* I bought (10) 4’X 8’ sheets of 15/32” plywood – I’ll be going back for more (got GOBS of space in attic) to use as decking (was told by experienced friend that 3/8” plywood allows to much deflection).
These are just the next few steps in order to get the Maverick inside the garage to be able to work on it! I’ll be building the work-bench after the attic has been completed and all the parts are stored.
'May not sound like much progress on the Maverick, but all this other ‘stuff’ HAS to happen first.

Next step towards working on the Maverick inside the garage.
Pick of attic area over garage with insulation prior to 15/32" plywood decking . I used John Mansfield R30 (5 rolls @ ~$52.00/88 sq ft at Lowe's - OW!).
The images don't show it all, but I insulated 400 Square Feet of storage space!!!
After the adjacent area is decked, I'll have over 600 feet of storage space.

Gee Rick, thats nice!
But with 600' of storage, do you need a light for FAA requirements, and how will you get to whats on top?
Oh...wait, you mean square feet :D
hehehehe

Well finally got the engine here and started tearing down my previous work in preparation for bigger and better things. Some pics of the motor can be seen here. http://groups.msn.com/TexStangsTech/tracemansparts.msnw?Page=1
I actually rebuilt it a few years ago but never had the need to use it. Now I want to go with forged components. Anyone need a stock 351 rotating assembly with .040 cast pistons?
Everything just needs a good cleaning from a beatle invasion. I believe they came through the plug holes. LOL:p

I partially cleaned up my garage. I can actually see my other car now, and can even get to my toolbox! Amazing what a few hours of work can do for you. Since I can reach it, I'm now motivated to start working on the thing :).

Very Nice Mo!
(please tell me you're going to replace the fuel-hose with braided line (one at least long enough to carry the fuel away from the engine bay - 'hate to see all that work go up in flames. and, er..you and your Dad too.) ) at least shorten and re-route existing line?

Well, I picked up my engine rebuild kit and the new VERY pretty turned crank yesterday... it was a bitch riding home with a 302 crank and a rebuild kit in a dufflebag strapped to my back on my bike for the 27 mile ride home.
I emptied one can of chem-tool into the tub I bought this weekend and placed the pistons in there for their bath, I also dipped the lifters in another gallon. That crap ain't cheap!

I think we should start a thread re: "Gonna Get Nasty Saturday Night!"
Bring yo' green - there's plenty to be had!
Hmmm.....I do believe there was a PoMoFo in a White Coupe that was interested.
Maybe someone named Bubba on this board can tell us if it's gonna happen ??

There's a (type) car i have worked on plenty....oh an that "funny" looking bumper is to mount a front mount oil cooler behind...they help out big time sine the stock tube type in the fender really doesn't do to well at keeping up with Texas summers.
