View Full Version : New Times - Broke Previous Records!

I headed out to the track for the first time since December. I had previously had a best run of 12.948@108.36. Since that time, I have installed a Tweecer and I wanted to test a little with it.

I made an initial pass when I arrived to baseline the car HOT. First pass was a 13.008@107.76. This wasn't bad, as it was my best pass ever just arriving at the track. I made another quick pass, botched shifting into second so the pass was aborted.

It was busy at HRP so the average wait in the staging lanes between runs was around 30 minutes. With the air cooling down and mild wind, the car cooled down a little for the next pass which initially broke my previous record. I added 2 deg timing globally before this pass.

60: 1.873
330: 5.430
1/8: 8.329
MPH: 85.68
1000: 10.820
1/4: 12.920
MPH: 108.84

My 1/8 mile ET/MPH and 1/4 ET/MPH were up with the addition of the timing. Looks as if the motor responded somewhat. I wanted to back it up so I left everything the same and made another pass which would prove my best ever ET. I lined up against another Cobra, so had to show him up:

60: 1.865
330: 5.367
1/8: 8.250
MPH: 85.97
1000: 10.746
1/4: 12.837
MPH: 108.02

Unfortuntately, the guy I raced won the race, but alas, he was on slicks and I found out he had trapped 107mph on his pass so that means I was pulling on him in the big end. But the most interesting aspect was that his motor was not stock. He had cams, head work, etc. I was very impressed that my stock long block Cobra motor kept pace with a modded Cobra. However, I don't think his combo was right or he doesn't know how to drive.

My last pass of the night, I decided to play with the fuel. I pulled 5% fuel from the high load Open Loop table. Anything about 60% was reduced by 5%. I also set open loop mode to hit at 3000rpm with a 60% load to insure my changes would take affect. I was trying to overcome a rich condition my car has which was attributed to the long tubes. Anyways, the car sat a little longer as things got busy so it was slightly cooler, so these results with the pulled fuel may be attributed more to weather/cool engine versus the fuel change:

60: 1.910
330: 5.473
1/8: 8.371
MPH: 85.75
1000: 10.870
1/4: 12.960
MPH: 108.97

With that pass, I am knocking on 109mph's door! I can now say I have a consistent 12 second car on drag radials. On slicks, I am guessing I could run 12.50 and 12.60s consistently. This car has improved every time I went to the track which I would say it has more to do with my driving unlocking the potential in the car, versus the car making much more horsepower. I know the timing helped a little. The weather was not as good as the last time I was out, density altitude last night was around -74 ft versus -900ft from last time. Although on my very last pass, density altitude was around -350ft.
