There is a very loud sucking sound coming from my mass air meter. It has the same sound as a bearing going out in the alt or somthing. I know its not a bearing(started the car without the belt). I do have a small air filter but I tried a big one and no change. no noise up at the throttle body either. I know they are supposed to make a little noise from the air going in but not this bad. I can hear it over my exhaust and my car is loud as hell. Any ideas? This is a 76mm C&L calibrated for 30#ers. Anyone got a Pro-M that I can try? Darrell has also heard the got aweful noise.

Some throttle bodies whistle. Mine did and I've heard some so bad that it almost sounds like a blower.

Are you sure it's NOT the TB that you're hearing?

I would think the car would be running rough (under normal conditions and not WFO) if this were the case but:

As you know, there are vaccum line connections on the bottom side of the upper intake in that area that can come lose and make that sound also.

It's happened to me before (along with a lot of other shit).

'Just offering things to rule out.

Im 99% sure its coming from the mass air meter. I have a Holley intake and have checked the vacuum lines. The car runs fine. Just annoyingly loud.

Mine has a loud "sucking noise" also. It did it with my Pro-M 75mm with conical filter, with fenderwell kit, and it has done it with my Pro-M 80mm w/ conical filter attached to it. It just comes with the territory. I moved mine into the fender so I dont hear it hardly at all anymore.

Just to add to Jason's description, I've heard a lot of cars where you hear a sucking sound at the filter and so on....

Jason's is about a million times louder than that....just about as loud as his exhaust. I've never heard another car that is anywhere near as loud as his....

I don't have any ideas, but I just thought I'd throw that in...LOL

Have you unhooked the MAF and removed it from the car? Any change? If so you have to determine if it's the MAF or the rubber inlet. Can you rotate the MAF any? I've heard of that helping idle problems.

Have you checked the IAC solenoid? I've heard of them making noises before they die. Since it's all part of the same tube, the sound may be transmitted and sound like it's coming from further down. If you disconnect the wire while it's running (hold the throttle so it won't die), the noise should change, if not go away.

Mine has had a noise like that at WOT and at takeoff ever since I installed my CAI.
