Most of you should know by reading some of my previous posts about the valve spring issue and the swap that ensued. Today, I finally got to test out car at a local 1/8 bracket event.. Previous best was a 7.88 @ 86 mph with a 1.70 60' on BFG DR's. This was shifting at 6,000 rpm's on the stock tach (around 5,600 rpm's actual). New Best:
1.72........60'
4.959......330'
7.711......1/8
86.12......mph
I am pretty sure this would have been a 7.6 pass as I lifted just prior to the finish so as not to break out (7.70 dial). On full out passes, the car ran 89 mph. This is an increase of 3 mph and almost .2 quicker ET with only the valve springs changed and the exhaust tips cut off. Not bad for a N/A 304 ci motor suffering from blow-by in 2 cylinders. I also cut a new best 60' on the BFG DR's. After several 1.70-1.72's, I finally got a
1.696 60' :D . Keep in mind, my car still has stock control arms and 100k mile bushings. To say I am happy about today's new best is putting it mildly. I feel my car is finally performing like it should with the parts it has. Time to go visit a 1/4 track and see just how close to the 11's I am now.
Edit: I forgot to add that the new times were with me shifting the car at 6,700 rpm's on the stock tach (around 6,300 rpm's actual).

Again Shane, great job! You'll beat me good now!
I also ran a new best today, on the second and only clean/full pass I made. I went a 7.76@90mph. Dont remember the rest of the specs, and the slips are in my car, and Im too tired to go get em, lol.

Wow! Great runs Shane, guess the springs were an issue after all! Still got the small catback on it? If so, time to yank it off!! :D

Anyone want to take a guess as to what my new 1/4 ET and MPH would be? Previous best 1/4 was a 12.40 @ 110 mph. This was with a 7.91 1/8. I am gonna guess it to be around a 12.10 at around 114 mph.
/me thinks he should borrow someones ET Streets or Drags and shave .10 off his 60' and go for an 11.99 1/4.

Now get ya a shift light so you know where you're shifting! :) Just the consistency alone should get you into the 7.6s
Congrats!

Based on the way your car started to pull on me on the big end when we raced, I think you should have no trouble running an 11 at HRP with a 7.71 1/8th mile. All of my runs in the presidents race would have be sub 12 second 1/4 mile passes and I don't think I could have held you off for another 1/8th mile.

Actually, Darrell. the car got quicker as the event went on. I am not sure why other then I was experimenting with different shift points throughout the event. First all out clean pass of the day was a 7.76 at 89 mph. I then ran a lifting 7.75 and a lifting 7.71. Both of these were 86 mph. I got to run all out the last pass of the day (damn red light). However, the car suffered bad wheel hop and only had a 1.74 60' and ended up running a 7.81 at 88 mph. Not sure why it slowed down so much other then the fact that the car was hot lapped. The last 2 runs were probably within 5 minutes of each other. I do plan on purchasing another Autometer shift light as soon as money permits.
/me is also turning his motor a lil higher then he likes. A few of the passes, I hit the 6,500 rpm rev limiter going through the traps. YIKES!!!

That makes me feel pretty good to hear Chuck. However, I just don't think its going to happen on the DR's as it sits. The only other mod I have planned in the immediate future is the swap to an electric fan I have sitting in the shed. I am just waiting on a 130 amp alt to do that swap. Aside from that, I still believe its gonna take me a low 1.6 to high 1.5 60' and some hard driving to get me into the 11's. We will see. I hope to make HRP soon.

So was that 7.71 run against me? If so, you must have run it because I was pushing so much wind up to your back bumper that I gave you a boost! :D

Cars running strong man. I don't think you'll have a problem running an 11 as the car sits as long as you do it in the type weather we were in Sunday. Only problem I think you may have is that those BFG's are just about toast. Granted the hook better when bald like that, but they're also on the edge of showing steel!

I myself am wanting to go to ET's but the unreliable rear end in my car scares me.
On a side note I found it interesting that Highlander was running ET's on his new TA at the CCB's. His previous times were 9.30's and such. This past CCB he stayed with his street tires and ran 8.6's. I suppose that tall tire was killing his car with the stock gears.

Actually the 7.75 run was against you. That was a lifting 7.75. Only reason you were pushing wind up to my back bumper is cause thats where you were the entire race :fu: . I am still a little upset I broke out that race. I tree'd the hell out of you only to have my car decide it wanted to run much quicker then it had run all day. Oh well! Maybe the next time things will be different. :D

Just jackin with ya man!
Thats how I won most of the races Sunday is everyone I went up against broke out as I was coming up on them so damn fast it wasn't funny. I did cut probably three good .5x lights, the rest were in the .6 range. I cut a .51 on my closest race against Shane McCalister to his .50 light and forced him to breakout by like .05-.1. I think I cut a .55 and a .58 in other rounds.
Too bad I redlit the semi final though, could've been two westside cars in the final race, that woulda been cool! I don't know if its ever happened at CCB. I know I've seen a pair of F Body cars in the final together though.
