I have a friend that is getting a new set of TFS heads so he is going to give me his GT-40s. Are these worth my install time? I am currently running the stock heads on my car with an f-303 cam and Edelbrock RPM air gap intake. Any experiences good or bad with these heads, tips, suggestions etc. etc. are welcome.

Be prepaired to get new headers. The stock or aftermarket headers will not work with the P's (there may be one or two brands that may work, I'm not sure which ones). If you have the time and it isn't costing you anything I think you will see a nice gain from them esp with your cam and intake. For the time and cost of gaskets and if the header issue doesn't bother you I say go for it!

I have seen great results with the GT-40p heads. First, what is your long term goal? Exactly how fast do you want to go? These heads are better then stock, but not near as good as say TFS, AFR and such. Only draw back to the GT-40p heads is you have to have headers specifically for them because of the way the spark plugs stab into the heads. If you can get them for free or atleast cheap, I say go ahead and install them.

FYI...I ran a 12.97 at 105 mph on BFG DR's with box stock GT-40 heads, a Cobra intake, and a stock cam in a 3200 lb car with driver.

You can get a set of Mac long tubes or shorties, they'd work :) The spark plug angle is different, which is why it doesn't fit.

I think it's worth it, especially if it's free! (At least that is what it sounds like from your post.)

Be nice if you could do some work to them before you put them on - but that can be costly.

My long term goals for the car? Cheap as it can be fast as it can be. I would like to eventually see a high 11 on a 175 shot.

With those heads and a 175 shot, you should have no problem running 11's depending on vehicle weight. 12's on motor should not be a problem either.

That sounds like good news. The car weighs around 3200 with me in it. The only thing it looks like I might have probs with is plug/header interference. This would be on a 76 Maverick and I don' think I've ever come across any "p" specific headers for it. I guess I will just have to cross my fingers and hope for the best.

to add to what shane said, its my understanding that you can port tha gt-40 pretty big, just incase you get tha urge ta go a lil faster.:)

Like Cristina said, MAC headers will work with those heads. I've installed 2 sets of P's and both times used MAC headers. You dont "need" a "P specific" set of headers.

Just get some MAC's that will fit your car with that motor, and you should be good to go with those heads.

The problem blue is he is in a maverick. what you may have to do is spend the money to get the shorty accel spark plugs. But if you are running long tubes right now i think the early model headers have enough clearence anyway.

I know he's in a maverick, hence the "get mac's for your car" comment. heh.

I wasn't aware mac made headers for the early models or do the late model LT's fit the early chassis?

Word is that FMS is now making all it's 5.0 headders with a longer outlet before the first bend --all will be P head compatible.
