well, the twin turbo kits are in a holding pattern right now... the headers are here, and I'm going to pick up the tranny in the next couple days... the flanges are being cut... still no engine, but I've got a "worst case" contengency plan if the planets should happen to align and the flanges get here earlier than expected...

but in the mean time, I've actually been making some progress on Project: "No Dough"

over the past 4-5 days I:

cut open the underhood harness and removed every unecessary wire...

pulled the dash and did the same...

cut redundant bracing from the dash and swiss cheesed the bracing that stayed

swiss cheesed the bellhousing seperator plate (using an early ALUMINUM plate as opposed to the steel ones found on the later cars!)

swiss cheesed the dash pad (this is an 85 coupe) I'll be running a plastic cover over it that'll look "stock"

got the dash back in place and tested the lights. (they work! LOL! :D )

deleted the passenger side mirror (found a delete plate at the JY)

got the EFI harness all sorted out and removed unecessary wiring (namely AC stuff)

got the computer mounted and the EFI harness in the car

modified the 60mm SuperCoupe TB to bolt to the factory upper intake (factory TB is 45mm... it's capable of supporting 300-350hp, but throttle response is better with the bigger TB, and it matches the size of my intercooler tubing)

I've got to do a couple LITTLE things as far as wiring, and then the car is READY for drivetrain!!!

I've got all the parts, it's a matter of "assembly" now... the short block is together... gotta assemble the head, button up the longblock, and get everything stuffed in there...

then I gotta do the discharge tubing and get the exhaust hooked up, but I'll be damned if I'm not on the home stretch on this thing! :D

your gonna have to rename the project to "project swiss cheese" haha. if i ever need a car lightend i know who to get ahold of :D im shooting for 3200-3300 with a 460/c6 in a '90 lx hatch with full interior and a non swiss cheesed body/chassis/whatever else its possible to put holes in :)

it's not TRULY gutted till you've been "here"

and deposited the excess "here" (that bag is just under 15lbs!!!)

(note the plastic cover in the background?)

(an earlier aluminum seperator plate... )

(gotta keep it lookin' stock!)

(ok, it's not a PERFECT match, but behind a headlight cover (clear) hopefully it'll blend enough to not catch the eye on first glance!)

What kind of race weight are you looking to achieve? Or is this just to "get it as light as possible"?

Forrest

it's definately not "as light as possible, or I'd probably have a race curbweight down below 2200 (lexan is your friend!) the theme here is "sleeper", so I've gotta have a stock appearing interior, and I like things like side impact beams, etc.! :D

my "goal" is to have the car at or below 2500 curb weight with a stock appearing interior... (it pains me to install things like door panels and handles, but gotta keep it lookin' stock!) that could, of course, be brought down closer to 2400 at the track by removing seats...

Let me know when you're ready to go out for money races with your "stock" Mustang !!! :D

it should be pretty fun once I get all the "new combo bugs" worked out...

I realize you can't exactly predict off of other combos, BUT... going by some similar combos with less porting and more curb weight, the car SHOULD have some 11.6-11.7's on pump gas (hopefully quicker, but I'll be happy to be worrying about getting kicked off the track)

I'd love to see some low 11's on race fuel...

the thing ought to be an animal on 75 shot (these cars typically pick up a second in the 1/4 on a 70-75 shot!)

there's a particular bolt-on baby I've got my sites aimed at who's gone I think 11.7's with TFS heads AND nitrous  and then there's the guy with the '00 GT running low 12's with a Vortech AND nitrous...

the fairmonts are fun, but everone knows they're mustangs underneath these days, so in order to inflict a more powerful blow to the ego, I had to get a "bigger stick" as it were...

hence, the turbo 4cyl... even the underhood is gonna hurt... the "story" on the street is going to be that I took a turbo and manifold off of a thunderbird and bolted them onto a stock 4cyl! :D
so, I'm using the black steel NA valve cover (which is also lighter than the nice aluminum "2.3 TURBO" cover), the block and head are going unpainted... the turbo compressor housing is getting painted black, etc. etc.

it's going to hurt... oh yes... it's going to hurt SO good!!! :p

oh, and the great thing about the 2.3 turbo is that NOBODY is going to mistake the exhaust note for a V8! :p

Damn Forrest, that's awesome!

If you need some mild money backing, look me up too ;).

Just curious if you will or already have ripped the heavy steel crossbar out of the door? It pretty much negates any type of crash protecting, but I think you're already there with the swiss cheesing :).

no, impact beams are staying... none of my weight reduction is "structural"... well... if you don't count the bumpers! :p
