It was a BLAST...

There were MANY PoMoFo's in attendance. I was very pleased and proud to have so many folks donning the shirts of the group. I had probably 6 different people ask to buy one (we didn't have extras, :-( ).

So, onto the event rundown...

Saturday True Street Event....

Mike Ardito ( turbomike (http://pomoforacing.com/FFWEnnis02/turbomike1.jpg) ) won the low 11 sec et range by running a 11.121, 11.121, and 11.160. He also placed 5th overall out of 130 cars! This was in his ALL MOTOR coupe (http://pomoforacing.com/FFWEnnis02/turbomike2.jpg) that he's had for sale here in the classifieds. More people than just his wife want him to keep the car!

I placed 10th overall in true street, which made me happy, as I had fought some wiring problems for the day and a half previous to running. I had set a goal (even though I thought it slightly unrealistic) to breaking into the top 10. I barely met the goal. :-)

Carl Smith ( White90gt (http://pomoforacing.com/FFWEnnis02/Carl.jpg) ) placed 12th overall! One of these runs was a best ever 11.277 ET! It was fun, b/c I lined up against him every time we ran. Too bad I never tried to cut a light against him, as I was making sure I was up on the 2-step, etc. More on Carl later on......

Kirk Jackson ( hotrodcobra (http://pomoforacing.com/FFWEnnis02/hotrodcobra.jpg) ) placed 17th along his way in winning the low 12 sec et range with runs of 11.637, 11.696, and a 12.851 (badly slipping clutch). He thought I was joking him when I told him he was the low 12 et avg. "Well, that helps pay for my new clutch." hehehe. Was great to meet you Kirk.

Brent ( brent88gtvert (http://pomoforacing.com/FFWEnnis02/brent1.jpg) ) placed 28th in the event (just missed the magazine top 25, doh!). I dont care WHAT he ran, Im just happy he didn't blow it up!! ;)

Trevor ( TRAXX (http://pomoforacing.com/FFWEnnis02/traxx.jpg)) ran GREAT! He placed 34th in True Street with an avg of 12.871. In Fri time trials, the guy went 12.4 @ 117.8 his first time out with a 2.3 60 ft!!!! That's a mid 11 sec car with a good 60ft.

Ben ( Saleen91 (http://pomoforacing.com/FFWEnnis02/saleen91.jpg)) had a hiccup and didn't finish. He made his best pass ever on the first run, and in the process, lost the plug for the smog tube on his h-pipe. Not knowing what was wrong, he pulled out and went back to the pits. Oh well Ben, You ran a new best, and could have driven home, so that's all that matters!

Shane had a mishap with the rules committee during his second pass, lol. That's ok though, he had a great time, and didn't break. The only thing he broke was his HEAVY 10 holes off the ground! (http://pomoforacing.com/FFWEnnis02/shane.jpg)

Joseph ( gt350mustang (http://pomoforacing.com/FFWEnnis02/gt350mustang.jpg)) had some cruddy luck as well. He blew a vacuum cap off and that allowed his boost to go bye-bye. :(

John (Our Okie buddy with the cheetah car (http://pomoforacing.com/FFWEnnis02/john.jpg) ) had problems with his fuse box, which took out his elec wp and fan. Ennis luck struck again with him, :ashamed:

John ( CouPe88 (http://pomoforacing.com/FFWEnnis02/CouPe88.jpg)) tried his hand in the brackets Saturday night, but was sent home when he broke out! That car cost him $1000 though, so it was ALLL good.

Charlie and Trey Daubitz ( The Jyro Crew (http://pomoforacing.com/FFWEnnis02/jyro.jpg) ) did awesome Saturday. Trey runs 2 classes every FFW; the Fast Ford (FF) and Quick Ford (QF) bracket classes. FFW runs these classes back to back, so Trey tries to get at the front of the FF class, and then get back around just in time to get in the back of the QF class. It gets to be hectic for the guys as the rounds go by. The time between rounds gets slim. Well, these guys are the best racers (preparation, skill, attitude) I've ever met. Trey made the quarterfinals in FF (broke out) and received $50 for his efforts. He then went on to WIN the QF class, to a tune of $500!!!

Ok, onto Sunday. Some of us tried our luck in the True Street Bracket class. In the first round, I redlit.... John redlit.... Shane broke out, and Ben lost. Carl and Brent made the next round.......

This became a trend, as they BOTH kept winning and next thing you know, they had made the SEMIFINALS!!!! Unfortunately, they both lost. Carl was on the brakes and broke out by just thousandths!! They both made $50 out of it though! They were estatic. (http://pomoforacing.com/FFWEnnis02/checks.jpg) A buddy of the local PoMoFo guys, Andy Warwas won the class! If you read this Andy, GREAT JOB MAN!

Along with those mentioned above who raced, we had many others who post on PoMoFo come to watch the racing and have a great time. Those names include Cristina (AGirlWithACoupe), Nancy (ZincYellowCobra), Darrell (red95gts), Todd (ok91lx), Robert (white87306), Bubba and family (Bubstang), Clint (FoMoCo1), Jason (HPF89X), Ray (rsnow), Brian (Brains) and Tiffany (Zangel), JB (JeB) and Im sure some others I've forgotten. We pitted with/next to the Westside Mustangs group (local club that some of us Houstonians are involved with) and had a blast with those guys (Brian (big red), Derrick (frosty), Alex (Ajax), Andy (steedaranger), Troy (Westside Mustang), Ross, Jack, Chuck (Chuck98gt), Anthony (posts here on PMFR as Fizzy) and more. They were there when some of the PMFR's needed some help, and we were there if they needed help. And a special "great to see you" goes out to both Frank (drove from Arkansas to see his buddies) and Chad (flew from HAWAII to meet his buddies!!!) You guys get the long distance award for a member who drove and who flew, respectively.

Overall, even though I personally was frustrated for part of it (working on my car), this was my best FFW yet. We had a GREAT turnout, and like the post Todd made stated, we ALL had enough food and drinks to make us nice and comfortable. I hope you can ALL make it next year to the 2nd annual PoMoFo Racing GTG!!!!

It was great to see everyone again and be able to put some more faces with internet names! :)

Thanks to everyone for helping to chip in on the food, drink, etc. I think that went really well and saved all of us quite a bit of money over eating/drinking track food! LOL

Congrats to all the winners and participants!

Hope to see you all next year!.....or maybe sooner..;)

Unfortunately, they both lost. Carl was on the brakes and broke out by just thousandths!!

Lets correct that, not thousandths, one thousandth of a second. 12.039 on a 12.04 dial in. The mind cannot possibly comprehend hitting the brakes .001 earlier. :doh

/me is still kicking himself for not hitting the brakes .001 earlier. I even tree'd Curtis by .1 and still beat myself. Hell I Had two cars on him when I hit the brakes.

All I can say is that I had a blast. This was the best event to date! Even though my car didn't run the numbers I was looking for, I didn't break, I didn't blow up, and I drove the car there and back and did much better than expected in brackets on Sunday.

Although Nancy and I didn't have our Jager challenge I think she did just fine on her own! :D

Its great to get together and meet everyone in person that came such far distances like Chad and Frank. Frank, that is one hell of a nice truck and stereo/dvd system you have in there. And I'd like to thank Todd for taking charge of the cooking duties, it felt like every time I'd try to get some cooking started I'd have something to do or be called to the lanes.

Thanks again to everyone for making this one truely one to remember!

Brent

I had a blast guys even though I did break. I'm one pooped out PoMoFo today, but I'm still grinning on my best ever E.T.!

Hopefully we can have this kind of turn out at FFW/Houston come May!

Ben brings up a point we need to discuss. There has been some talk of the Houston event not really being up to par with the Ennis event, thus making it not quite as interesting for those of us who have to drive long distances to attend. Fred and I (and others) have discussed the possibility of taking a road trip to WFC (World Ford Challenge). Tentative Date for WFC6 is May 15th - 18th 2003 in St. Louis, MO at Gateway International Raceway. I have been to this event and there is nothing that even compares to it. It makes a Fun Ford event seem like a small town track test and tune. Just thought I'd throw the idea out there and see if this is something that we might want to consider.

Also,
/me thinks Fred should drop the engineering stuff and turn towards journalism. Have Cris be the photographer and Fred doin the articles(we all know the spelling would be correct. :D) Good job on the write up and pics guys... Looks good.

Todd,

Good point! If we've got an RV by then, we're definitely on for the WFC!

Actually it was 117.9;) That way I can tell people it ran 118 and get away with it. On top of that the damn thing weighed 3500# with me in it! Next on the list it to get the Race Magnums, and Dr. Gas X welded up (nudges Mr. Bingham) and put the car (and my self) on a diet:) Oh and get some slicks so I can launch it like I hate it!

I too had a blast! I think we definetly got the name out.

Big thanks to Fred for helping me out with loading the trailer at my place.

I had a great time. Sorry that I had to split early on Sunday and couldn't get to watch more, but my little girl was cranky and I was kind of cranky too with bad sunburn and my legs were killing me (had to push my car a long way and I'm old & out of shape).
I have to thank the PoMoFo crew for hooking me up with an ice cold water when my wife was MIA (asleep back at the hotel).
The t-shirt & stickers are cool. Someone from Tremec & Dallas Mustangs commented on the cool PoMoFo logo on my shirt.
It was nice meeting everyone (since the only person I had previously met was Fred & Christina).
Ya'll seem like a cool bunch and I look foward to future events. I may even want to get into some CCB action. Also I am currently working on my wife's 92 GT and she wants to start racing again too (and I don't know how to build anything slow).
Since I have not had any serious offers on my LX, I guess I will keep it for now, and like I stated earlier in my for sale ad, if it doesn't sell, no big deal, I would still race it at Ennis and hope to be in the top 10. :)

I had a great time. What blew my mind was the PoMoFo turn-out. Seems like every time I turned around Friday and Saturday, I saw a car I had never seen before with a PoMoFo sticker on it :burnout: . I really enjoyed putting faces with screen names. It was great meeting all of you and I look forward to the next PoMoFo GTG.

Me and the crew (family) had a ball. Got a bit sunburned but other than that, it was great to see everyone. Can't wait till my car gets legal with the cage so I can play too!!!!

BTW, it was cool to hang out with my bud Ray (rsnow), but I did miss racing with/against him in true street this year.

Thanks guys. Had a great time, as usual. Next time, my 2.5 tons will go down the track. I am proud to accept the long distance driving award. Due to this drive, I had to leave about 2pm so I missed all of you guys in the bracket racing. Made it home fairly early though, which was nice after the weekend. Is it friday yet?

Thanks for the great time guys and gals. Fun Furd is always a blast, and to top it off... records were set on an occasion that Chad was able to be at the only Fun Ford he has ever attended.
Mikey had a blast too. Thanks for the hard work planning and making the PoMoFo GTG a success!!
see yall @ FFW Baytown!!!! (pending no cows involvement) :)
