Literally - this struck me as funny today. Thoughts like how much "BS" the officer who shot the bull will have to put up with - I wonder if they have to check bullistics. My first thought regarding the tranquilizer gun was " don't shoot Mongo - that will just make him mad".

ARLINGTON -- Authorities had to shoot and kill a bull Saturday night after he got loose in Fort Worth and made his way down Interstate 30 and into Arlington, police said.

Traffic on I-30 between Fort Worth and Dallas stopped at Eastchase Parkway, closing both sides of the highway after the bull ran loose, at times jumping from eastbound lanes to the westbound lanes, Arlington police Lt. Leland Strickland said.

Arlington police responded to the call around 7 p.m., spokeswoman Tiara Ellis Richard said.

The Dallas Morning News reported that workers at the scene said the animal bloodied itself by ramming cars on the highway.

Arlington animal control employees using nonlethal measures tried to get the bull under control, Richard said. At one point, the bull was south of I-30 and animal services employees tranquilized him twice, but he became aggressive and charged at a worker, Strickland said. The bull also charged at a police officer and area residents, according to reports.

He impeded traffic for an undetermined time, posing a danger to motorists, police said.

When attempts to get the bull under control were unsuccessful, an officer had to put him down, Strickland said.

I-30 was congested for hours in both directions, with gawkers slowing down to watch.

Richard said the highway reopened fully about an hour after the incident started.

Correspondent Susan McFarland contributed to this report.
